Instead of forcing us to buy pre-determined 3-packs, they should let us choose three songs of our own from the dlc library and purchase them for the price of a 3-pack. :O

While I'd like a price break as much as the next guy, I can see why the packs are set up at a pack price.
I mean, sometimes you go to the store and you can find deals that are "any three for $5" and other times you find that you have to buy three specific things to get them for $5.
Also, we don't know what kind of contracts are behind the DLC. Some of the songs may only be available outside of song packs because the record label wouldn't give Harmonix a break on the licensing fees if it was sold in a pack.
And any way you slice it, it's still a pretty good deal--I bought all three of the DLC songs this past Thursday (despite them not being available in a pack) and I've already played each of them at least three times. To me, the DLC is more about what you get out of a song than it is about what it costs you.

I believe the current structure is the best we can hope for. I don't think the Xbox Live Marketplace UI has the structure and logic built in for a more complex storefront. It's an MS limitation more than a Rock Band one.

Oh for sure. It's definitely about what you get out of a song than what you pay for it. So far the only song that I've purchased is ...And Justice For All, and I play it at least once every time I turn on Rock Band...it's irresistible on expert drums. Totally worth the 160 pts. I want to get Buddy Holly, 3's & 7's, and My Iron Lung, but they are all from separate packs. And while I don't mind the 480 pts, It would make it feel that less expensive should there be a slight discount (yeah i know im a cheapo, lol).
On the topic of dlc though, maybe they should have an option that matches player packages for online play? I joined a group today that asked everybody who joined if they had the metallica pack and booted everyone who didn't. I told them I had AJFA and I was "allowed" to stay, at least for a while until i got fed up with the constant kicking and left. Haha.

My heart bleeds.
At least you have the option to buy from what's available. It won't even recognise my non-US credit card.
In a world where money makes the world go around, it's rare that you find you *want* to be able to buy something, but you can't.
GG Sony. This would be yet another reason why you're losing this generation.
