this would only work if it was something like sing star, not a whole band.. this would be more of a karaoke game if anything.. even though soul and R&B is incredible, regardless though it wouldn't fit into a "band" style game i don't think

We were talking about how ridiculous "P-Funk Hero" the game would be. 8 vocals, 12 guitars, 4 basses, 3 drums, a mandolin, 2 pianos, a synthesizer, half a brass section and a saxophone. I'm exagerating but that would kick ass though.

Y'know, that reminds me of the one costume option I don't think anyone has considered for DLC for this game.

A diaper.

Dead serious. One P-Funk guitarist (Glenn Goins, I think) would perform on stage wearing only a diaper. And considering the things guys like Bootsy Collins and George Clinton himself were (and are) prone to wearing, he was the most normal looking of the bunch!

So many USB Hubs, daisy chained together...sounds like a fire-hazard :)

That being said, I am 100% behind selected songs from the above (particularly Prince, who is my jam). I think they just have to be really solid BAND songs for the instruments we have first (ie, I love sex machine by James Brown, but it's like 6 minutes of the same guitar riff, etc), and a "good song" second. Just so the gameplay is still fun.

But yes! FUNK!

Some classic Funkadelic would be awesome! (Says Maggot Brain!) The guitar, bass, drums and funky vocals would all be a lot of fun.

Haha I would LOVE some maggot brain, but it would be a little light on vocals.

I support the idea of the game expanding to any genre, especially funk, reggae and perhaps some ska. Musically diverse, thats the ticket!

Actually, I'm looking forward to a little Banjo Band, so I can get my Bluegrass on.

In reality, adding some funk into Rock Band would be awesome. Give those bass players something to do! :)

I'd love them to expansive themed expansions FOR Rock Band.

I'd hate for them to start making entire new franchises.

If Oblivion can release shivering Isles for DL on Xbox Live and as an expansion disc for PS3 then Rock Band should be able to do "Funk Band" or "Glam Band" or "Country Band" as the same way.

To be honest, I'd rather have funk band than rock band, because it's more my style.

It'd be great:

PARLIAMANT
JAMES BROWN
JACKSON FIVE (LATER STUFF)
STEVIE WONDER
MARVIN ***E

HELL YES. Parliament, Bootsy Collins, P-Funk, EW&F, et al would all translate well! Yeah, the multi-layered vocals would be lost but it would STILL be FUN. I'm big on drums and bass in RB as is, so this would be AWESOME for me.

Oh, and FILTRPWNED on Marvin G. ;)

Funk band would be awesome. They could package in a Bootsy costume as part of the bundle!

How about Jazz band with an upright bass controller. How cool would that be? A little Monk, Armstrong, Coltrane.

How about they just release a variety of music for ROCK BAND and not worry about developing (insert your niche style of choice here) BAND that only appeals to a small group of potential buyers.

I would LOVE some funk on the games! I was thinking Prince would about rock my socks, but now looking at the proposed list others have put up...I would die and go to heaven with some of these songs on there!

Does Harmonix own the rights to the original Guitar Hero? I wish some of those songs could be turned into band songs. *sigh* Maybe if everyone learned to play nice together...;)

I agree that making niche collections might be difficult to sell, but then again, it has worked for Karaoke Revolution and SingStar... Either way, I am down for more of that genre being included in any case!

I wish more people agreed with you. If you look around at some of the suggestions proposed in the Ultimate Setlist section concerning other genres (R&B, Rap, Country, etc.), there always a few people that respond 'This is Rock Band, there should only be Rock songs in it!'. That, and a true funk game would need some way to replicate a horn.

I think at least one Funk song should be included in the game. An Awesome addition to the game would be some Prince songs. He kind of draws a border line between funk/rock. Plus there are some awesome guitar solos in some of his songs.

I'd be all over Funk Band. but would be satisfied with some DLC of other genres. Would love some Prince - Purple Rain album songs. "I Would Die For U" come to mind.

Early Red Hot Chili Peppers were pretty funky. I would love to have more of their music in the game.

I think the sentiment that this expresses is that people want to see music in the game that isn't rock or a descendant of it. I would love funk. I would also love blues, which is arguably the progenitor(sp) of rock. I'm not looking for an expansion, but releasing a different genre as dlc (just one song) would blow my mind.

that being said, I'm pretty sure that list of 3,500 songs that HMX created originally will get first pass. I'm content to wait.

Funk would be almost too good to be true.

Easy - The Commodores
Purple Rain - Prince
Love Bizarre - Sheila E and Prince - For the drummers
Cool - The Time
Fantastic Voyage - Lakeside

Yes I would buy it in a minute. I am sure John can agree with me here since we are both Prince fans. Prince has alot of songs that would work in a band setting being that he did them with a band! Prince and the Revolution, New Power Generation (NPG) both full bands with prince leading the way on guitar. So BRING ON THE PRINCE AND BRING ON THE FUNK!

This shows your lack of experience with the funk genre. Listen to Funkadelic and tell me how far off rock it is. Not all funk is the disco-pop that most think it is.
Funk would go very well for this game.

Hell yea! That'd be hella dope!

Even the R&B stuff would be nice. If you've watched any of the unplugged sets.. where they take away all the studio effects and it's just the vocals and instruments.. you'd be amazed! I always think unplugged R&B.. even some hiphop.. turn out really great.. SOMEtimes even better!

Reggae and ska too!!

i'd be happy if they came up with a game with ALL those genres... But i bet they'd separate them to get more money outta us. I'd prolly be the perfect sucker for them.. cuz i'd most likely buy each one.
