Has anyone else been watching this on the History Channel? It’s been so intense. The images they’ve been showing and the stories told.
Tonight I watched the movies of the invasion of Saipan. Over a 1000 Japanese civilians chose suicide than surrender to the Americans, out of the fear of the things they been told would be done to them. Whole families threw themselves off cliffs or huddled around grenades. The footage of a young woman throwing herself to her death and of babies corpses floating in the sea were heart wrenching.
This show is really giving an amazing new look at the war.

I saw a trailer for this whenever I saw The Men Who Stare At Goats. It looked pretty good.

It's a lot better than I thought it would be. It's not just the footage, it's the stories from the veterans. They’ve been showing every angle, from the German front to the Pacific.
Another harrowing moment was when a young Lieutenant placed a private in charge of several German P.O.W.’s. A short time later he heard gunfire and when he ran to check on them the private had killed all the Germans. It turns out the private was Jewish and his parents had been killed in Europe. Since they couldn’t spare anyone and because of the circumstances they just marched on, ignoring what had happened.

this show is definitely not for the squeamish, but it is absolutely riveting.

I'll catch it on eventually, because history and science shows are about the only things I watch nowadays. (The Universe is usually awesome) Some of the footage I've seen looks awesome, and other parts just look like it's been blown up to fit the screen.
