So Kristen Stewart, of "Twilight" fame is supposed to start shooting a movie about teenage runaways... her role? Joan Jett!
While I really don't have an opinion about her acting, (I had had surgery and was all high on vicodin when I watched Twilight, lol) I really think they could have chosen someone better for the role... IMO she just seems too soft...IDK, just thinking into the forums!:D

Have you seen who else they cast as "The Runaways"?

It is going to be a terrible movie about a very underrated punk band.

They're going to need a jackhammer to shape that Twilight chick's teeth down. Joan Jett doesn't look like Bugs Bunny.

The movie is already is post-production.

Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, and Scout Taylor-Compton star.

Where'd ya find that? I don't doubt you, I just don't find it when I do a search. And isn't Scout Taylor-Compton the one who played in the Halloween movies? Rob Zombie's version...

yup

I'm friends with Scout on MySpace

they were filming in early Summer, so I just assume that it's in post-production

You know I keep forgetting not everyone else has been obsessively watching this movie like I have. I was about to post a sweet and short "old news" post.

I dunno. The chick who's doing the casting, well I've seen some of her other casting work, and she's damn good. And the chick directing it is really creative and Joan Jett is co-producing. The cast is weird but the behind the scenes people are all very good. I trust them enough that I'm not bummed out yet. The filming and all is done and I'm just waiting for the trailer.

However if Kristen Stewart f*cks this there will be f*cking hell to pay. Joan Jett is my eternal crush.

Yeah, this is very old news. Filming has wrapped and post is just about done. I wasn't sure about this at first because I wasn't very impressed with Kristen Stewart in Twilight. But then I saw her in Adventureland and that completely changed my opinion of her. So I'll definitely be going to the theatre for this one.

It immediately jumped onto my list of all-time favorites. It's a perfectly crafted coming-of-age story with arguably the best soundtrack ever.

I posted a thread about this WAY WAY BACK

like midsummer. in a ranting format, too.

I dunno. Watching her interview on Conan the other night, and contrasting that with Joan Jett's appearance on Letterman back in the '80s... I must begrudgingly admit that they are pretty similar.

Low voice. Both are actually kind of shy in their appearances and visibly uncomfortable with taking the lead in the conversation. Mostly reactionary. Etc.

I still don't like it much. But we'll see, I guess.

Yeah I think a lot of the hate comes from people typecasting her as "That chick from Twilight." That's the problem with becoming an actor in a film that becomes a fad. Being taken seriously by the cool kids who are too cool for fads.

I think the more people hate on her for Twilight the more I wanna have faith in her for The Runaways. I mean she's an honest actress which is rare in actresses at such a young age. I think she's a rare breed kind of like Ellen Paige. They're actually acting. Not just being "The attractive one." Whether or not they're good actors is always up for debate but they are actually acting which, again, is rare for an attractive woman at such a young age with such a boost in fame.

If she can just hold out and continue her acting streak she might make it into her 30s without falling off the radar like all the others.

adventureland was ok, but it wasnt memorable. the main guy in adventureland (jesse eisenberg) plays the exact role in zombieland. he feels like a carbon copy of michael cera.

I have an opinion about her acting...she couldn't act her way out of a paper bag. And this is coming from someone who actually liked the Twilight books...I personally thought her performance as Bella was just wretched.

Devil's advocate question:

Did she not correctly portray the character or did she not portray the character as you saw she should be?

As someone who is friends with actors and people in the indie scene you have to remember actors do have the liberty to sway the character to better fit the realm of reality. I haven't read the Twilight books so I dunno but I'm always skeptical when fans of books say an actor didn't portray a character "correctly" in translation.

If anything I've read the finished script for Twilight when it was leaked (and yes it was confirmed real by several of the actors) and it was terrible. It's why I didn't see the movie. I couldn't imagine anyone pulling that script off at all without coming off as less than impressive.

I was just going to say that, if the commercials and trailers are any indication of the quality of the writing (or, rather, the lack thereof), then the Twilight films are hardly a useful barometer of an actor's ability.

Robert Pattinson trashed his own character (Edward Cullen) and the central premise of the story (the "perfect man" and the "perfect relationship") on Letterman last night. :D I must say, that's the first time I've seen any actor do that. Actors usually gushing about their portrayed character around the time that the talk show promotion run comes about for a movie. I found that amusing and refreshing, and it has certainly upped my respect for him a bit.

Neither, she just plain can't act IMHO. She portrayed a sum total of *1* emotion during the entire movie, and no, that's not what her character was like in the books. Every line she had was delivered with zero emotion and zero depth. She might as well have just been reading off a TelePrompter.

What face?

The only one she ever makes.

Robert has been making fun of his character since before the first Twilight movie came out, but it's still always a treat to watch him blast Edward. :p

I never said I was a Twilight fan. I just said I liked the books. I enjoy reading fantasy and sci-fi books, and these were alright, once you learn to ignore all the teenage girl angst b.s.

And for the record, I'm not a metal drummer. I'm a hard rock drummer ;)

And that equates to the entirety of her capability? Or is there a chance that's just not the right part for her and it was sh*t casting? Was that what the director told her he (or she) was looking for?

Maybe I just really want The Runaways to be good but I'm getting really bothered by the constant pattern of hating [insert famous chick actor here] for making [insert trend setting movie here]. Not to say you fit that bill but it all lumps together after a while.

It's not the first time he's done that either.

He's also slammed the author of the books, as well as the fanbase. I think he's pissed he wrapped himself into a three movie deal without knowing the source material.

Good early review on the movie. I remain cautiously optomistic on this.

And on the earlier post of the Cherry Bomb cover, not too bad at all actually. Certainly no worse an idea or performance than Joaquin in Walk The Line.

Definitely looking forward to the soundtrack album

1. "Roxy Roller" Nick Gilder
2. "The Wild One" Suzi Quatro
3. "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" MC5
4. "Rebel Rebel" David Bowie
5. "Cherry Bomb" Dakota Fanning
7. "Hollywood" The Runaways
8. "California Paradise" Dakota Fanning
9. "You Drive Me Wild" The Runaways
10. "Queens Of Noise" Dakota Fanning & Kristen Stewart
11. "Dead End Justice" Kristen Stewart & Dakota Fanning
12. "I Wanna Be Your Dog" The Stooges
13. "I Wanna Be Where The Boys Are" The Runaways
14. "Pretty Vacant" Sex Pistols

and the books from Joan and Currie.

Any movie soundtrack that has both The Stooges and The Sex Pistols can't be all bad! I am still a little leery of the casting in this movie but I think I am willing to give it a chance. Probably will not see it in the theater though, I usually only go to a couple of movies a year and I do not think I care enough about this one to bother.
