Holy crap. I keep failing the Harmonix 9 song set list because those songs are ridiculous to sing. I get through to about the 7th song and I can't even sing it. Not only that but the mic doesn't accurately measure the sound of your voice. I'll go really low like the singer does during the slow part of the song and the little arrow will jump way up to the top of the measure bar. It then ends up failing out on me becuase of it. That setlist is hard enough as it is and then being forced to play it on Hard difficulty is even worse. HMX you could have at least let us play on medium.

What you are describing is called octave wrapping and it's the intended behavior of the game. It behaves this way to allow you to sing in a more comfortable octave. What is happening is that you are singing too low and it ends up being a high note in a lower octave.

yeah so I dunno how I'm going to beat it. I've played it about 4 times. It's getting really old and the songs are not even that fun to sing.

Do you remember which song specifically is giving you the trouble?
Also, it might be that while you're going low, you're not *quite* hitting the right note. As you go up in difficulty, the games pitch detector gets more and more unforgiving, so that even the slightest variance from the intended pitch is not going to register correctly. From my experience, the pitch detection for the game is usually pretty accurate, so the game may simply be giving you a "close, but no cigar" sort of judgment call on the pitch you're hitting.
If you can remember the specific song, it might be easier to give you some pointers.

It's "I Get By" by Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives. That song is hard too sing so I just did it guitar/bass.

Oh Lord, I Get By. That song is my nemesis. My only advice for passing it on vocals is to download a copy, if you can find one, and listen to it over and over and OVER. After listening to it enough, the first part isn't that much of a problem, but that damn "tone-deaf rambling" part...all I can say is save your OD for it, and good luck.

If it's "I Get By" then it's tricky, but not impossible to pass. The only parts with fairly regular low notes are the first verses and the end, which is consistently low with the "I'm just waiting for another bright idea" part. If you're going too low, then try switching up an octave to see if that helps, though it sounds like you're probably getting close but not quite hitting the right note as accurately as the game would like.
Other things that might help are to keep your notes "clean." As others have said, vibrato or wavering in your voice is something the pitch detector doesn't like, so you need to give it nice, flat, sustained notes. But in the case of "I Get By," it's quite likely you need to give the song a good listen and sing along with it, because the singer doesn't use the most conventional melodies, and I wouldn't be surprised if you fall into the trap that a few have of trying to sing it in a way that "sounds" right to traditional melody, when in fact the actual vocal is a little off of what you think you're hearing. In other words, there's a chance you might be harmonizing with the vocals instead of hitting the actual note.
Also, have you tried readjusting the sensitivity of your microphone? That can play a big role in how the game is reading your notes. If you're the type that sings softly, then even if you're hitting the note correctly, the meter will "dock you" for not giving the game "enough" of a clean note to work with. Increasing the sensitivity of your microphone will help the game to more accurately read your notes if you sing softly. On the other hand if you sing loudly, then putting your mouth right up to the microphone when you sing can actually be distorting the notes the game is judging you on, so you might want to consider pulling it back a few more inches, dropping the sensitivity a few notches, or possibly both.

Says the only person who can get a halfway decent score on this song! lol! It'd be nice if you could replace songs in the setlist with ones you've downloaded. Ahh, I'd be unstoppable.
