I picked up my copy of Rockband at EB in Toronto today and the guitar is broken right out of the box. My roommate went to Buffalo to get this game when it first came out in the states and I thought his guitar sucked. He has the loose strumbar version. My guitar is also the loose strumbar version except I have the go the the full extreme end of each strum for it to recognize a strum. Additionally the up strum only works 50% of the time.

Has anyone else in Canada had similar problems? I was hoping that with the extra one month wait they would fix these problems. I guess not.

This is what I'm worried about. What's the date on your box and the serial number and all that jazz? I remember after a certain date or number, the guitars are supposedly the better (see: working) version.

The date is Nov 22. 2007

Is that date right on the big box or the guitar itself? I'm gonna be picking up one tomorrow (counting on that it comes in) and I would like to get the newest one that I can. But if I have problems I'll let you know tomorrow I guess.

Mine works fine so far. *Knock on wood* it has a manufacture date of Nov 5. The outside of the guitar box had 4 green stickers around it with checkmarks on it (written with a marker) don't know if those checkmarks were from QA or what.
Dizzy: The date is on the bottom of the entire rockband bundle on the outside of the box.

Oh okay thanks a lot, hopefully I can pick up a 'new' one or one that doesn't give me problems (either now or later down the road).

I got my bundle from an EB in Burlington and the upstrum on the guitar only works if I go all the way up. Date on the box is Nov 22.

Pretty much what I was expecting after reading these forums for the past month...

****ty I guess the supplies are really limited if they have to send out defective guitars and not send a new shipment. Hm well can GHII and/or GHIII controllers work? I have neither but my buddies do so hopefully at least my drums are ok when I get them.

Whenever you buy a new electronic (relating to video games) and you get it at launch, you have to sit through the bumpy ride of the manufacturer ironing out the bugs. It's happened with the original Xbox (the Thompson drives became faulty and kept giving dirty disc errors), the 360 (RRoD) and now this. This pisses me off because it's inevitable that I have to buy it now, since it's so limited and I don't know when the next shipment will be.

Is there any other way, other than opening it up that will let you know if you have a non-magnetic switch in your guitar strum?

How much did you play it? I've got in less then 100 songs. And I hve been kinda babying it a bit to try to break it in instead of breaking it. Same goes with the drums.
