the game will take some time to get used to for beginners, but it's so much fun that all the "practice" is just you playing the game and enjoying yourself.. it's not really something you can just pick up and get the hang of and beat right away.. you'll have a blast with it though.. you'll get used to reading the notes too, it's a little complicated at first but trust me, it becomes a lot easier than you'd think.. the most important thing is to just have fun!

Mostly anyone can get medium right away, easy is almost too easy and hard is little too hard sometimes. It helps tons if you know most of the songs too. Expert isent by no means impossible but might take couple of hours of practice to get some the tougher songs down.

Please go through all the 'tutorials' and learn what to do first. A lot of people skip over this part and just jump right into the game and don't realize they're not playing right. Once you get a good understanding of the game start playing, start on easy and work your way up, don't rush it that will only hurt you and set you back.

Once you get use to things, it's not hard. The notes on the screen don't move all that fast and you can slow them down in practice mode if you need to. Hope that helps a little!

Since you've never played music games before, it is going to take some practice to get used to reading the screen, figuring out how to interpret the right timing of what you're seeing, etc. One tip I'll give you now: don't fixate on the bar at the bottom. Concentrate more on playing the notes in time with the song and you'll do better. And like Harsher said, start with the tutorials first.

Once you get used to the general "music game" thing, Easy and Medium aren't that difficult. Hard and Expert are the levels that'll give you trouble, but just like anything else, with practice you'll get better and be able to conquer it all. And the great thing about Rock Band is that it's so much fun, you'll be practicing and improving your skills and won't even notice because you're enjoying yourself so much.

The games are very relative. They set the songs in order just right so you can transition to the next difficulty without too much hassle.

I remember when I picked up GHII for the first time, and doing easy all the way through, then getting to medium and being like "Holy ****, now I gotta screw with this Blue button..."

The from medium to hard "No way in hell I can do this orange button."

then from hard to expert "It's like a brick wall coming at my face!"

...Then in levelled out.

It works just fine. You move up to another difficulty, then look back at the previous one and ask yourself "How did I screw this up so much?"

I never played GH before. Rock Band is my first experience with this type of game... err, actually Boom-Boom Rocket was my first experience with this type of game, but I quickly found that game was boring and never play it now.. so, this is my first game of this type that I find enjoyable.

Easy is just about right for a complete n00b like me. Of course, you have to understand that I am 41 and uncoordinated as hell. Easy on drums is a challenge for me, my wife, however, worked her way through easy and can now play on Medium without problems. But, I plan on working with the drums until I can advance my way through, can't let her do better than me :p

Anyway, what I found is there is a level for everyone in this game. Expert? Naw, my brain can't think that fast, but maybe one day...

Depends on your personal skill level as well.

Vocals seem to be a different experience for everyone. I was able to LEAP into medium and breeze through that. Hard is difficult for me, for various reasons related to the fact that I refuse to sing "properly" preferring instead to do karaoke versions. (read as, beer related versions)

Guitar is probably the most typical across the board. Kill Autumn nailed it. You'll be constantly going "YES I DID IT" then moving up to the next difficulty and going "YOU GOTTA BE F***ING KIDDING ME!" I still laugh when I remember that two months ago I was screaming "God I hate this STUPID BLUE BUTTON" and now I playing on expert going "can we please play some of the harder songs? Say It Ain't So is so easy it's boring."

Drums... well, you said you were a drummer so it's going to be completely different for you. I've played drums for a long time IRL and when I broke out Rock Band I went straight to medium and failed about four songs in a row before I could even get to 30%. I realized it was because I wasn't playing the "note-chart" I was playing the song. I moved up to Hard and breezed all the way through to Vasoline before I got less than an 80% on any song. My best friend is a more talented drummer than me, but he has less experience with Music Rythym games than me. Any song he KNOWS he can play on expert... if he doesn't KNOW the song he has to play it on medium for the last two tiers of difficult songs, and hard for the rest.

There's plenty of tips for all the instruments depending on your play style...

the biggest asessment I can give you about "how hard the game is" is this: It's as hard as you want it to be. If you just want to jam and have fun and live out some rock star fantasies.. you'll be able to get to medium (which is where the game gets fun on the guitar) in no time and hang out there having a blast. If you are the type who wants to be "the best" then you'll have many challenges along your way to the top of the leaderboards, and even the number one player on any of the leaderboards will constantly be challenged to maintain his/her place there. The new DLC content always sends people in a race to either:

a) get thier buddies together to hear the singer belt out that new song while they jam out to something new

b) DL it and get on the leaderboards as quick as possible
