Possible to play with just guitar and drums??

Am setting up new system on PS3 and trying to play in multiplayer mode with just guitar and drums. The system won't let us get to the song selection menu without plugging in the mic and selecting it as a third "band member". We'd like to play with just the two of us playing guitar and drums with no vocals. Is this possible -- and is there something we should be doing in the multiplayer quick start to get the game to begin with just the guitar and drums plugged in?

Sorry if this is a silly question. Everything seems to be working fine if we play solo. Thanks!

disconnect any other controllers. im not on playstation, im on an xbox but thats what i would recommend because its definitely possible to play with just guitar and drums. I've done it plenty of times.
