View Full Version : Why are "ah"s so hard?

It seems on vocals on this game, extended "ah" parts in songs are really hard to hit. Like, my arrow will be on it most of the time yet my meter doesn't fill up. An example of this is the "ah" in LSD. Did they do anything to make these specifically difficult?

I too have had this problem. WMGGW, Because and Octopus's Garden always get me.
It's all about being on the exact pitch. Long notes don't tolerate you being even a fraction off.

So, if I mess up for a millisecond at the beginning and quickly correct myself, can I no longer get a Fab?

You can still get a Fab if you're quick enough with recovering.
The "ah" at the beginning of Sun King is a hit-or-miss for me. Argh.

I meant about holding the note and just being a tiny bit low or high.
The arrow pretty much has to be dead centre in order for the pie to fill up.

Yeah, exactly.
And that's why the "ah" for Sun King is such a hit-or-miss. I can't hear what the right pitch is before the note starts.
Like, I can hear it in Because, since the harpsichord "points out" the right note for the "ah" in the beginning. But with Sun King, I can't find it right away, so I have a little trouble finding the right note. Which costs me my Fab rating at times.

I also can't hit the 'love you' in The End. The ahs are tough.

I've never had a problem with them. The only thing I can think of that I have a lot of trouble with are the falsetto "oohs", and the "Love you" in The End.

You can try 'training mode', pick a song and you can hear the pitch that you have to get. It worked for me.

I do okay until the repeated "love you" just before "The End"... I almost always get booted :( off the song. Maybe I'll be able to get it right if I place my hand between my legs and squeeze?? (just kidding)

The end of while my guitar always gets me. I find it really hard to tell what notes I should be singing in the "ahs"

I've been working on that song for the past half hour and I still can't get the "love you" parts right?
Like the man said, "Love is all we need!"

Wow, I got my first 100% on The End last night!
I actually hit the "love you"s I always seem to miss!

I played The End last night and got most of them. On the lower "love you"s, I did my flattest voice possible, and raised it up a tiny bit for the higher ones.

I got the 'Love You's by using the pitch trainer in the Training Mode, I'd struggled with them for ages until I found it!

I almost always get 100% on vocals when I'm singing "The End". Oh, well... LOVE YOU.
I'm #1 on the Leaderboards for "The End" (Band/Wii version), together with Mexican and 1van who played with me. Look out for softguitar, 'cos that's me. Hehe. Thanks for playing, guys!

I can get 100% hard vocals on GS/CTW/TE right up until the "love yous", then I fail the song...every time.
I've got a bass voice, so I have to sing nearly everything an octave lower, and that's the only way I can get through the "Ahhhhs". Some, like Lucy in the Sky, are easy for me, but there are some songs that I may never be able nail the "ahhhs" and harmony lines just right: "I Feel Fine" destroys me. I can go above the line and below the line, but can not hit that pitch no matter what I try: It looks like the bloody line is magnetically repelling my voice! :)

I can't hit the 'ooh's' on Hello Goodbye. It's too high, Paul.

Lower by an octave.

Many of those 'oohs' are exactly one octave higher than the note that preceded it. ;)

I don't find ah's too difficult, but like others have said, those "Love you" parts in The End are my nightmare.

I'm guessing the "love you"s are the biggest vocal nightmare.
I've tried the guide pitch in the vocal trainer and I know what pitch they're supposed to be, but I'm just slightly off almost every time and I get a "great" "okay" or even "messy" on those.
I honestly don't know how the hell I FC'd the song the other day.
But because of those "love you"s, the song is a lot less fun for me to play.

Almost all of the vox in the Beatles kills me, Twist and Shout harmonies kill me, so do those "Love you"s in The End, god I hate that part.

What the f*** is this? Thanks for not contributing to the thread at all..
For me, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds always gets me. I cannot hit the ah's in that song for the life of me!

I never really had a problem with them either. But the system works the same as Rock Band, try a lower octave in practice mode.

Don't Let Me Down crazy part is ridiculous.
"EEEEEEE" at and octave higher than I can sing for 15 seconds straight with random talkies and thrown in pitches.
Always end up in the red after that part.

Last night I sang online for almost 5 hours. I was lucky that none of the other players had downloaded the Abby Road DLC so I didn't have to worry about trying to sing those dreeded "Love You's" in The End. But my last song "Drive My Car" finally strained my cords to the point where I almost failed the song. At that point I had to sign off for the night. Guess I should use the practice mode or (as much as I would hate to) just sing those songs in easy mode as a last resort? I'm not concerned about scores, I just want to sing the songs!

That dreaded "EEEEEEE"...
WMGW at the end is hard too. Especially the last "Weeps". I have no problems with the "Aaah" actually.
And the "uh's" at the end of Come Together are stupid. I just sing "Come togetheeeeer" till the song ends, and it works for me.

Those "weeps" took me a long time to finally master, but I hit them all the time now.
They used to make me almost fail the song cos I never heard them before. (The album version fades out in the middle of the weeping)

I usually don't have trouble with this, but it is true ... if pitch is not just right, it will fail you.
