Not bad.. could be better songs, but I'll probably pick up Attack and Move Along.. especially since they're only 80 points each.

sweet!

I may not be a huge fan of these bands or thier music... BUT the fact that

A) they are all 80 poins

and

B) You have to admit that this whole set of DL's is great for singers.

make it super sweet.

Here's to another night of staying up till I can DL em'!

definitely, plus nothing against these bands because they're not that bad, but now there's something else for all the girls to sing when they come over and can't find anything other than fall out boy lol

Just agreeing with the folks here. I'll probably only pick up The Sounds, but the price is a steal on them, and the fact that you guys keep getting stuff out every week is still frickin' amazing. At that rate, it's going to offer a lot of variety, which is awesome.

I only heard of 2 of these songs before, but after listening to it everything sounds pretty good. Except the All American Rejects, sorry..doesn't cut it for me >.<
Ah, if only I had a 360/Ps3 :'[

See that's awesome. Those songs don't really do anything for me, but I'm super happy for this guy. :D

It also gives me hope that at any point it could happen with bands that I'm really into.

I'm not interested in those tracks.

I was hoping Christmas would be some great classics.

But I know a lot of people will like this selection, so good job Harmonix. You can't make EVERYONE happy.

THE SOUNDS! SICK! They are one of the bands I requested but never honestly expected them to make it in to the game! I am so happy about that.

To be perfectly honest, I'd never heard of any of these bands (I'm over 30, I'm old, I'm entitled, sue me) but after checking out a few videos on YouTube I'm actually looking forward to this DLC. It looks like Harmonix is living up to their promise; I never would have found out about any of these bands had they not been available as DLC, and now All American Rejects might just get a CD out of me in the near future.

This is the EXACT type of attitude I wish everyone had on these boards. I just got down reading through the announcement posting and read about half the people threatening to kill themselves/angry at Harmonix for putting out these five songs for Christmas. I think we all need to remember that it is IMPOSSIBLE to please everyone, and while a more "classic" selection would have made a larger group of people more happy, I am sure there is just as large of a group that is thrilled to have these more alternative bands show up in Rock Band. You have to remember that it is CHRISTMAS, Harmonix could of have left us with nothing over the holidays, but instead they continue to show us that WE the fans and users of the game are who they care about, not making loads of cash. They even made these songs .99 which is a total steal!!! Thats is the same price of an itunes download of any of these tracks, but you get the chance to play drums, guitar, bass, and sing to them. I personally would like to absolutely applaud Harmonix for how amazing of an experience they have made this game so far, in the four weeks this game has been out, there has been more DLC released for this game than in the past year of BOTH Guitar Hero II and III.

Everyone has different tastes, and I am POSITIVE Harmonix will do their best to cater to the individual types of music that people love. If they come out with some more hardcore metal song packs, I won't download them because it just isn't what I am into, but I am not gonna complain or ***** at Harmonix for releasing them because I know there is someone else that will love stuff that I hate. So take it all in stride and remember not complain so much, I think some people are already getting spoiled with how well Harmonix has been treating us.

THANKS AGAIN HARMONIX FOR A GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFT :)

I'm hoping Harmonix employs a "One for this demographic, one for this demographic" when deciding what DLC to release. I'm glad that they are picking songs that will raise interest for some of the younger kids out there. Maybe now my daughter will be able to join in the fun (on vox)

Move Along is one of my personal favorites on SingStar, but I'm hoping for some solid Smashing Pumpkins or Pearl Jam soon. My wife is looking for some blues or jazz (which I think would be very awesome).

I wonder if us Canucks will see a price drop tomorrow as well (unlikely).

I find it funny when people post news here from a different website, when they got their source from these forum's announcements section.

Anyways, for .99 cents these are all getting a purchase. HMX shows some love with cheap tunes, I'm gonna show it's much appreciated.

Not bad. Rock band needs some more fairly new bands.

Edgehopper
12-24-2007, 04:48 PM
Hey, it's cheap, it's new, it doesn't make want to poke out my eardrums. I'll buy it and play it, and probably grow to like it after a little while (I couldn't stand Welcome Home the first time I heard it--these I'm more "meh" about). And, I can probably get my sister to sing them when she comes to visit; that wouldn't have been possible on the Who's Next release.

Well, so far they HAVE been tailoring the DLC to different demographics.

An old school punk pack... a new metal pack (metallica), an old metal pack (Sabbath), a new rock pack (Queens), an old rock pack (Bowie), An older "pop-alternative" pack (weezer, radiohead, pretenders), and this one would be the newer "pop alternative" pack.

Seems to me that the next logical step is a new punk pack (Green Day, Blink 182, Strung Out, NoFX, etc.)

Look at the announced albums:

The Who (guitar god classic rock)

Grateful Dead (full on band fun classic rock)

Nivana (Grung)

Metallica (New Metal)

Now.. all I'm saying is... Sublime: 40oz To Freedom.. THATS what we all need. ;)

Wow, 99 cent songs. We're not worthy!!!

I like to listen to all types of rock, and the 30 seconds to mars tunes are pretty good for singing. Same with All-American Rejects. Not my favorite songs by them and I haven't heard of the sounds. But for 99 cents. You can't go wrong.

Heh, I bought a new points card. Almost expecting something huge (like huge in my wallet) and its just 5 bucks. Now I'm def. picking up Temptest that came out on XBLA.

This is how downloadable music should be.

I wish it was an offical older alt pack because I really would love to pay the package point for the Weezer and Radiohead. I think with my MS points tomorrow I may snag Buddy Holly, the Sabbath Pack, the Bowie pack, and a few of these $0.99 songs. I don't really know many of them except for Dirty Little Secret, and while I'm not a fan of the genre and what not, the price is right for expanding my musical horizions. Still, I'd like to be able to package my own songs. Pay the pacakge point for three songs of my selection, but oh well.

I'm going to want to look at the YouTube videos of these before I pass judgement on whether or not I get these. Still, this is a great sign of things to come, diversity-wise. Besides, there's still plenty of songs I've yet to download.

Many thanks, Harmonix!

There are alot of possible genre's/themes they could do. I wouldn't necessarily the next 'logical' pack is a new punk pack. It's all a matter of opinion what they next 'logical' pack should/would be.... ;)

I agree with a lot of the previous posters. These aren't the most exciting bands or songs - actually it's the worst week of DLC yet. But hey, at least the price is right.

That said - am I going to get them? You bet! It's Rock Band.

I used the term LOGICAL because

New rock / old rock

New metal / old metal

New alternative / old alternative

???? / Old punk

So LOGICALLY in thie series a new punk pack would be next.

I didn't say I wanted it, or that's what I thought they would do.

Red apple / orange apple

??? / orange pear

red grape / orange grape

Logically in this sequence based on the given data the only LOGICAL assumption you can make is that there will be a red pear. Now.. it could be purple banana that comes next but the equasion doesn't give you enough information to LOGICALLY make that assumption.

so.. I stand firmly by what I said.

I still hope that it's sublime though ;)

Can you imagine.. in like a year you'll be playing online and hitting "Random Track" and whenever you see an original game track you'll be like "Wow haven't seen Wanted Dead Or Alive in forever!" Because you've got 300 DLC songs. lol

I'm pretty much sure that's what they're doing. Look, We've got Metallica (not my cup of tea, but many peolpe like them and the songs are a blast to play) We've got David Bowie and Black Sabbath (My favorites so far), and many others that have sure pleased tons of other people. I personally had never listened to this songs, but they're mighty ok if you asked me. And they're just 99 cents. That's just great. 5 more songs for me. Anyways, great job Harmonix!!! Just one more thing HMX: Please make DLC available for Mexico. I don't want to keep getting MS points on ebay.

Great job Harmonix, Emo/2000s pop punk crap. I guess the Christmas part is the money you'll get from all the morons who listen to The All American Rejects. I know they have to have modern stuff, but why can't it be good modern stuff?

I can't say I know about 30 Seconds to Mars, but they don't sound Christmas worthy, nor do they make up for the All American Rejects.

This is so much better than releasing Who's Next or Nevermind on Christmas. Thanks Harmonix MERRY CHRISTMAS.

From what Sean posted it made it sound like they would be that price for a little while. My guess that it will at least be until the end of next week, if not longer, since PS3 doesn't get their DLC released until next week.

I'll be buying one song, possibly two, my sister might like some of these I guess....we'll see.

I'll join the others in the general sentiment.

Glad to see 99 cent songs are a reality. Sad to see *this* is what we get on Christmas. It may be a little cliche (like emo punk) but I was really holding out for something truely special.

But hey... bringing the goods every week since launch. 90 songs now (32 additional since launch). Woot!

That's kind of offensive. I wish you people would stop with the musical elitism.

First off, I'm far from a casual "gamer" I've owned every console popularly released in the U.S. since the Coleco Vision and Atari Days (yes, even the 3D0, Jaguar, and Sega Gen/CD/32X)

Second off, I'm far from a casual "music listener" considering my tastes range from Aesop Rock to Cannibal Corpse to Prong to Screeching Weasel to Motorhead, and that I've been playing and recording music professionally as a musician and studio tech, for over 20 years.

I happen to enjoy 30 Seconds To Mars very much because it's good music. It may not be "Cool" to like them, or "hip" to be a fan, but I personally think Jared Leto is an amazing actor and a very emotionally profound singer.

So please stop making blanket statements... if you think that ony certain "GROUPS" should like certain music that's called being a "FOLLOWER" who can't think for themselves. It never ceases to amaze me how some people can be so caught up in what people might THINK about them.

AJamal
12-25-2007, 03:12 AM
Okay, I really didn't mean to offend anyone. But certainly you can see that when I turn on the tube, put on Fuse or MTV and the 30stm is on, I get the impression that they are geared more towards the casual listener. Its accessible, decent music. I've got no real problems with it, its just that putting out AAR + 30stm DLC on Christmas is definitely trying to get the casual buyer to bite, I'm not saying that all 30stm or AAR listeners are casual music listeners, and I'm sorry it sounded like that in my initial post.

Well, I'm no casual gamer / music listener (I actually like a variety of music genres and I've been gaming since the Atari 2600) and I'm planning on buying all 5 songs. I don't know if they're the best thing out there, but I listened / watched their videos on YouTube and they all clicked with me (unlike the Bowie pack that's already been released...).

To each their own, but I'm definitely going to enjoy getting 5 songs for $5. :D

I just wish we were given more festive songs like perhaps a pack of rock-themed Christmas songs and / or New Years Eve type music... Oh well, maybe next year...

Downloaded and played guitar on expert. They are all good songs. Dirty Little Secret, Song with a Mission and Attack are fairly easy reminds me alot of the MCR pack for GH2. Which I liked very much. Move Along has some fun parts that catch you off guard the first time. The Kill has some great fretting IMO.

The amount of fun you get out of these 5 songs is well worth the 5$

That is unless you absolutely hate these bands then sorry.

I have to admit that I was a little disappointed this morning when I saw what DLC they put up today. I did buy The Kill and Attack cause I like those songs. Pretty burnt out on AAR from hearing them on the radio all the time and don't really want to play them now. I do like the 80 point price. Whould be nice to see more at that price but 160(2 bucks) isn't bad either.

Indeed. I was trying to work out in my head how EA/HMV are making a profit on these tracks.

Considering they pay a similar amount as iTunes singles, it takes HMX employees a good deal of time to code 12 charts, vocal pitches and lip syncing, plus the insane chunk of change M$ pulls in from every Marketplace purchase.

Cudos to HMX for arranging solid new tracks at such a sexy low price!
