Three hockey sticks ductaped toward the bottom and the top. Ductape the mic on there, or tie some string really tight around the mic and the stand and let it sort of cling to the side.

I'm not sure how to make one, but I bought one for 20 dollars at a local music store. The time spent/money to purchase materials would probably end up being close to the amount you'd spend just snagging a nice little cheap one like this.

I gather a 15 dollar actual mic stand would be cheaper than purchasing three hockey sticks.

Got one from guitar center for 25 bucks, can't beat it, and its totally worth it.

If you're doing two instruments, just plug your headset a controller and you're set.

I saw a guy on herebefore who made himself a "ghetto-ass" mic stand, if anybody remembers that...
he taped the mic to the back of a chair.

for 2 instruments, i wrap the mike chord around my neck and wedge it with my shoulder. The electricity running around the neck creates a magnetic field that allows you to sing higher, though it may cause an aneurysm.

Take two or three rubberbands, tie them together, put them on your ears, and put the mic between the rubberbands and your face.

Lol, I'd like to see someone try that! Owww.... XP
Any tall, sturdy object and a good amount of tape should work well enough. But a decent mic stand is recommended, it's designed for it! Plus otherwise you'll have to play sitting down, some people can't play like that.

I'm tempted to buy a mic stand. In the meantime, there's always the ghetto option of taping the microphone to my tripod.... ;)

Basically the mic taped to a mop taped to a music sheet stand.
Because that's how I roll.

The actual piece that holds the mic is sold separately for some dumb reason.

Because mics are different sizes so you need to buy a mic clip that matches your particular mic size. The same reason snow skis and ski boots are sold separately.

So, twenty darrar instead. I didn't bother pricing anything, just went to Guitar Center and was like, "Hook me up with a cheap mic stand and clip that'll hold my 30mm mic." I paid ~30 bucks.
Whatever, though. Now I use it all the time, even when I'm not playing two instruments. Nobody should ever hold a mic, ever again!
...well, I mean, unless you want to.
