I'm playing Rock Band on my brother's PS3, and we cannot get both the guitar and the drums calibrated - only one at a time. Each instrument needs a different calibration setting. Close to zero is good for the drums, but the guitar needs something close to -50.
Has anyone else noticed this? I'm very surprised that Harmonix would not allow each instrument to be calibrated independently. In fact, each band member should have his own calibration setting for each instrument. People are different and have different preferences.

Simply put, you're likely playing one of the instruments wrong. Your timing for either guitar or drums has to be off because they should use the same calibration.
You should probably calibrate your game to the drums, since your tapping out the beat to a song is likely to be more accurate than your strumming to the scrolling guitar notes. Whenever I manually calibrate my game, I always take the value the game gives me and reduce it 10 or 15 ms.

I'm having the same issue on the PS3 RB. Calibrating for one makes the other less responsive (between drums and guitar). And I may not be a professional drummer, but I have a Bachelor's of Music degree - I can tap out a steady 8the note rhythm. So I know it's not MY timing that's flawed.
For what it's worth, I ended up with similar calibration settings. My video sync is at around 110ms; that's independent of the instruments of course. The input lag is what varies. 0ms is good for drums. -40ms is good for guitar.
I'm sure there's more than two people out there with this issue. Anyone?

I have the same exact problem. One EA rep even told me over the phone to calibrate the instruments separately on different gamertags. Of course, she had no idea what she was talking out, since you can only use one set of settings at once. It's definitely frustrating. I really hope HMX is paying attention as this could be rectified with a software patch. Then again, I'm not ruling out the possibility of this being a hardware issue.

you will find variances with each instrument you try. for example, my first replacement guitar needed a 15ms setting, whereas my 2nd replacement works better at 20ms. also, at my house and my sister-in-law's the 20ms holds, but when i went to my brother-in-law's the other day i had to play with the calibration for over an hour before i finally got it right. i finally settled on 50ms at his house.
i think the trick is to get a guitar and a drum set that both work well on the same setting. i'm on my 3rd set of drums now. i originally returned the first 2 sets due to unresponsiveness, but now i'm thinking that possibly they just needed a different calibration setting than the guitar needed.
my advice is to keep trying replacements until you get a pair that work happily together. i'd suggest keeping whichever instrument works the best (when calibrated correctly) and send the other one back until you get one that matches with that calibration.
