i think it's a huge change from GH to RB guitars... the fret buttons on the Strat are too wide!! Anyone else agree?

Photo I took for another thread. Xplorer -> LP -> Strat. It looks like the actual frets are the exact same size and distance apart, just the entire fret's a button. I actually like the strat fret buttons.

I like that the Strat has wide buttons...

With the GH controller, I have to play Medium on Red-Index Position because on Green-Index feels too cramped...

With the Strat, I can play Medium normally with free space...

If you think they're too wide...

...use the minifrets.

(But if you do, I don't want to see a topic from you saying the fret buttons are too narrow.)

It is widely known that RB has the best buttons and worst strum bar, and BH3 has ok buttons and the best strumbar currently known to mankind.

I personally think the clicking strum bar on the Les paul is as annoying as the clacking drum pads.

Cant stand the Les Paul.

Cant stand the Les Paul.

Agreed. I love the strum bar on the Strat. It took a bit of getting used to, but now it feels a whole lot more precise than any GH controller ever felt.

And none of that insane chopping sensation when I try to get through the fast passages.

i couldnt disagree with OP more.

the strat is so much more comfortable than any GH controller. especially the tiny little xplorer. i hated that stupid thing.

the only complaint i have about the strat is the weak whammy spring and the faulty down strum.

other than that its friggan amazing. its comfortable as hell and looks way better. feels much sturdier. doesn't give me cramps. has some nice little extras. i LOVE IT.

if you think the frets are to wide.. chances are you've never touched a real guitar for more than 1 min.

The frets are perfect they are better then the Guitar Hero controller those frets are too far apart I find the RB Guitar better then the GH Guitar Red Octane knows only how to make bad guitars unlike Harmonix I mean I like Red Octane but they cant make Guitar Controllers and yes I know what youre thinking......

!!! thats what your thinking huh?

My only complaint is the way the back of the neck joins to the sides of the neck. I find the angle a little too sharp and it annoys my hand after some time. I like the gradual backside curve of the GHII necks, feels more comfortable and more like a real guitar neck.

How do the button widths on the Rock Band Stratocaster compare with the fret spacing on the real Fender Stratocaster?

They're not too wide, they match up widthwise to a standard guitar neck's 7-9 fret sizing, at 2/3 the height.

The upper buttons match around the 12-14 fret area on a regular guitar, same 2/3 height diff.

I know there is a HUGE caveat on this so here goes...

IF you get a strat with good strummer system...you will fall in love with it!

My nephew is playing bass with a xCLACKER...err, i mean xplorer and it is louder than my drums.

Besides, if you get a good strat...anyway, I can upstrum all the bass songs including run to the hills on hard/expert! My right hand finger picking is just like i do on a real bass(cramps included)...its a much better strummer and the frets are also an improvement on the GH2/3 guitars.

The huge IF is the problem...I've got mine solved now :)

I had a very non-functioning downstrum out of the box. I fixed it almost perfectly with the 'masking tape fix'. There's a thread around here explaining it with a link to youtube. The guy in the video recommended specifcally only 4-5 layers of tape, mine work best with 6.

I have a Fender strat and the real strat's frets are a bit farther apart. It doesn't matter because most chords are going to be within 3 frets anyway on a real guitar.

True but I mean how close is the spacing down (scaled of course) to the actual guitar? It's praiseworthy that they try to replicate the actual instrument if that's indeed what they did.

Stratocaster controller is about 3/4 scale, right?

fenders way better then the gibsons...i use the smaller frets cuz i have smaller fingers. try using those instead.

That's really hard to say. The real strat is bigger as you pointed out and I have to stretch to cover 4 frets at the top of the neck. Controller has smaller frets and is somewhere around a 3/4 scale I guess. Let me just say it's pretty close to scale on the spacing.

The RB Strat buttons are better than the GH LP to me because there isn't as much of a gap between them. It's easier to slide from one to another. BTW, I've been playing real guitar/bass for over 20 years and it's really nothing like the scale and size of the real thing but the feel of the RB Fender is closer. The GH LP seems more like a toy.

I think the frets are too big and the little ones are too small. I need to spend time getting used to it. I actually failed In Bloom on expert.

lol, frets too wide. I'd hate to see what you people would think if you ever tried playing a real guitar. (I thought I was all cool when I could stretch my hand enough to have my index finger to the left of green and my pinky finger to the right of orange...then I played real guitar and found out that only covers the first three frets. Yeah.)

I think that's the point. Rock Band expects your hand to span 5 frets so the controller cannot be made exactly like the real guitar (since spanning 5 frets on the real guitar would be nae impossible.)

the strum on the guitar is sometimes annoying and that sharp angle on the neck annoys my thumb ALOT

Frederf

Place the pad of your thumb on the exact center of the back of the neck and arch your fingers completely, not touching the plastic except for the very tips of your fingers which should be pointed directly into the button surface at a right angle.

Love this guitar, nothing to complaint about. It help me playing at hard compared to the GH ones.
