View Full Version : What's up with the KOL hate?
I've noticed lately I've received a lot of hate for liking Kings of Leon and I have a simple question. Why? Is it because they've become to "mainstream" or is it just based on personal preference?

KoL doesn't do enough to stand out from the crowd. They have a decent singer, but instrumentally they're quite bland.

I just plain don't like their music I don't hate the band or fans of the band, but I do strongly dislike Sex On Fire :mad:

Why is that? Let's get into specifics... Maybe your childhood to start? And your teen years, let's break down where this problem originated. I mean it is a problem of course that you don't like KoL.
On a serious note, it all comes down to preference.

Well you listen to some super wild stuff back_blows theres no way they'd top anything you listen to.
You should check out Miike Snow. Now that is a band that stands out.

I never complained about your music taste I jsut said that you think you are of a higher power because you listen to lesser-knowne stuff. No disrespect towards you or the bands you listen to. Also the thread wasn't made to complain it was a question and I just wanted a straightforward answer.

Burial, Animal and Sans Soleil were probably my favourite tracks initially, but I'm so loving A Horse is not a Home right now.

Randomly Crap Out Your Opinions
I really like Alexisonfire's newest album but their older ones don't do much for me.

I like their 1st album a lot, and their 3rd was pretty good. Outside of "Use Somebody", their 4th was alright. Their 2nd does nothing for me though.
Well the second had a few good tunes. But yeah it has to be their weakest album overall.

Their singer is flat-out TERRIBLE. Just an amateurish, weak, whiny vocal delivery that makes me wonder how the hell this guy isn't working at McDonald's instead of in a famous band stinking up the airwaves with his crappy voice.
Musically, their new stuff is godawful, run-of-the-mill "alternative" crap, and their old stuff is just 70s classic rock imitations

The funny thing is that Prog fans do in fact look down on other music. You got it completely right.

That song, Use Somebody (or whatever the hell its called), is nothing but a looping moan echoed for 3 minutes, with one of the worst voices Ive ever been subjected to listen to slapped in between. And for some reason I turn on the radio every morning and have to hear THAT, I try to change stations, but I cant go anywhere else without hearing it (unless I want to listen to talk shows or Country)

I hate Kings Of Leon because I can't stand listening to their music. The vocals can be annoying and the instrumentals aren't really interesting. Oh, and the lyrics are embarrassingly bad. Like, so much so that the first time I listened to KoL I wondered if they were actually an unfunny novelty band.

Edit: That said I respect any band that has lasted more than 2 CD's and KOL is one of those bands. If I saw them live i'd clap and watch them respectfully.

They're okay. I like their first couple albums (not a whole lot, mind you), and "Crawl" is a very good song.

I have at least one song from all their albums on my iPod, and I have to say I really enjoy the songs from their first two albums. On Call and Sex on Fire are meh.
