I'm not really sure what to make of this really.

Simon Cowell looks to be interesting in jumping into the video game business. He recently met with Sony CEO Howard Stringer about launching a new video game venture.

"I should have had 20 games [by now]," Cowell told GQ (via MCVUK). "If you've got a game that's worth more than our shows and we're in 100 countries, something is a bit out of control. [British reality show] X-Factor should have been the initial vehicle to have Activision come to us and say: 'You've got all the [consumer] traffic. Can you help launch Guitar Hero?"

One of the men Cowell is working with on the project, entrepreneur Philip Green, also commented on meeting with Sony's Stringer about the venture.

"I said [to them]: 'Look at what we can do together. You've got massive manufacturing capability. You've got retail business. You've got PlayStation. You're one of the biggest TV suppliers in the world. He [Cowell] is one of the most watched men on TV!... Suddenly, people started to say: 'You're right.'"

Green thinks Cowell has huge potential in the video game market.

"Look at Guitar Hero. It's a billion dollar business. [Simon's] got more viewers, more hits, more everything - and he hasn't even got a website!"

Simon Cowell: The videogame

Interesting

I can see this potentially going well for him with the sheer amount of people that watch X Factor

What exactly would his game be? Rolling his eyes at Paula Abdul while making snarky comments and wearing t-shirts two sizes too small, then getting into his Bugatti Veyron and driving to his mansion in LA?

There was an American Idol game on the PS2, if I recall. Hardly anyone bought it.

I think Cowell may be overestimating what his name can be used to push. The videogame industry can be as unforgiving as his barbs.

The big point that is missing from that article; how many of those people who watch Simon Cowell on a weekly basis are keen to video games? And for those who aren't, would they be willing to pony up the cash for a console in order to play Simon's game(s)?

Yep It was a spin off of karaoke Revolution. To relate this back to this forum the non spin off the main series was developed by hmx.

Oh yeah, there were the Karaoke Revolution presents: American Idol (http://www.stuartduffield.com/images/Karaoke_Revolution_American.jpg) games, which I think are still coming out from time to time.

The one I'm thinking of though was a PS2 game from right when the show came out (http://www.videogamesplus.ca/images/PS2_Americanidol.JPG), and didn't have ties to any other license, and it was more than abysmal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Idol_%28video_game%29). So that's the first thing I think of when I heard "Simon Cowell" and "video game" :)

It was a horrible game in my opinion.

He obviously doesn't understand how video games work. He also doesn't understand how unpopular he really is.

Sorry, Mr. Cowell, but a Twilight game isn't gonna cut it.

It would be mind f**k awful.

Thanks for trying, now get the hell out of my sight.

I just love how Activision is going to be doing this, now they can finally destory the "billion dollar empire" of the Rhythm Game Market that even they are now aware of is dying

You guys do realize he's way more popular in the UK right? Hell the other night he was on Top Gear talking about his entertainment empire.

I still think this is a bad idea, but I see whatever he's selling doing better over there.
