I've paid taxes on my earned income and on most goods and services bought. Of course I get ripped off.

Yeah, I feel this thread is a rip off. It's taking up the place of another thread that might actually be useful.

There is no such thing as a ripoff apart from compulsory forces.

There is, however, a case of not receiving what you thought you were paying for. But that's an asymmetric information problem. But if you knew what you were getting, accepted the price, and paid it... you weren't ripped off. Apparently the transaction was worth your while, even if you may have been able to obtain said good for less with some proper research.

Ripped off? Of course.

Went to Cedar Point in Ohio 2 summers ago. And I paid like $9 for a piece of string and some fuzzy thing.

haha. Yeah, the park is amazing but the food is a total ripoff. A sub at Subway is like 15 bucks.

you wont know until you hear how the cymbals actually sound...and how quickly the stands fall over and cause them to break.

That is why you research the item you are buying, BEFORE you buy it!

I make sure to look up the way they sound before i buy them... usually you can find videos like that on youtube. ;)

The Pepsi contest technically was free as I got my caps from trash cans, and the mods are frowning on me constantly complaining about it, so for the sake of this thread, I will say:

The Wii version of:
-Guitar Hero World Tour, after Rock Band 2 came out with better instrument support
-Rock Band 2, after Guitar Hero 5 came out with SDHC and import/export support
-(Guitar Hero 5, when Rock Band 3 comes out with the sunburst finishes and facial hair GH5 was missing, and introduces full custom art support on Wii ;)...please?)
-(repeat when new version of game has features that should have been in the genre on Wii in the first place)

They feel like playing an old Atari game every time I dust the previous title off. Meanwhile, on 360/PS3, there is not so much of a feature gap.

It's the Wii.

If you wanted to play major games like Rockband and Guitar Hero,
you should've considered buying something with a little more processing power.

Not a total waste: The one in GH:M doesn't export yet (and probably never will), so you can play it in 5/BH.

I was lured in by Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which I gladly paid $55 for (disc was scratched badly and had to be repaired, which explains the $5 more). I have gotten my money's worth twice: once for the game itself and again for the homebrew capabilities the Smash Stack thing allows. Before you freak out over the h-word, this was for Balanced Brawl and Brawl+, which extended the life of the game again for me.

Had I bought a 360, I would have complained that I paid $300 (April '08, the time I was considering the 360 - was this before the price drop?) for a machine that does only one thing - Guitar Hero / Rock Band, even though it does it really well.

So I was not completely ripped off by the Wii.

All of you guys have a warped definition of ripped off. You knew what you were getting when you bought it.

Except there really wasn't a transaction taking place on your part, now, was there? To use the economic parlance, your existence is simply an externality of somebody else's actions. Two somebodies, to be precise. :D

Granted, there may be times where it's up for debate whether it's a positive or a negative externality... :)
