This is not a thread for whining about how the new songs suck--take that silliness elsewhere.
I've now played all 5 songs on drums and guitar, and sang them all as well, here's what we've got.
Dirty Little Secret:
3rd tier drums--a fun and slightly unusual beat on expert for the verses, lots of variety. Even if you hate the song, it's a fun drum part. Not very hard, but fun.
2nd tier guitar--alternates between the main riff and power chords--I'd expect it to be really fun with a group, but it's not great for solo guitaring.
7th tier vocals--It's a fun song to sing, and they're generally in my range.
Projected full band experience: Great for a mixed group of newcomers and experts; none of these parts are actually boring.
Move Along:
7th tier drums--The hardest instrumental part in these 5 songs; I tried sight-reading on expert, and failed at 12%. On Hard, it's just lots of fun. If you're a drummer, buy this song.
2nd tier guitar--Lots of power chords, but some good alt-strumming practice. Again, the type of song that's much more fun with a full band.
6th tier vocals--I think it's the most fun song to sing in the set, especially the little vocal solo part.
Projected full band experience: I'd guess the best of the bunch, especially if you have an awesome drummer. The focus is split between the drums in the intro and verses and the vocals on the chorus.
The Kill:
4th tier drums--Lots of off-beat bass pedal on the Expert part, plus some snare rolls. I think it's more like a 5th tier drum song.
3rd tier guitar--the hardest guitar part of these 5 songs, but that's not saying much--there's some fun HOPO sequences.
6th tier vocals--I thought it was a bit painful to sing, but it's not a good range for me.
Projected full band experience: A little meh, but there are some really cool animations here--watch for the bass drum kick animation and some nice guitar animation at the end.
Attack:
4th tier drums--An ornamented rock beat with semi-random RRY and YRY patterns and out of place snare hits. Fun, but can throw you.
2nd tier guitar--power chords, and more power chords.
6th tier vocals--30 Seconds to Mars vocals just don't agree with me, I think, but this was harder for me to sight-sing than The Kill. The bridge is painful and off-key.
Projected full band experience--Tough to say; no real standout moments on this song.
Song With a Mission:
3rd tier drums--Steady 8th note Rock Beat for the most part, this is the easiest of these 5 drum songs on Expert.
2nd tier guitar--power chords, but a really cool chord riff on the verses. Should be lots of fun in the full band.
5th tier vocals--The verses will be easy to sight-sing, since they're mostly on a constant note; the choruses can take some getting used to on the right pitch, but are awesome. "Hey, baby, well it's one, two, three four, broad with a mission"
Projected full band experience--great song, fairly easy, very catchy.
If anyone finds videos of the new songs, post them here.

Thanks for the breakdown. When you were downloading, was there any information about how long they'd be available for?

Those new kill songs are really good.

Song on a mission is a cover? Am I right about that?

I agree with everything the OP said. One song you'll be chugging the WHOLE song. It's kinda annoying.

Yup, it's a cover.

That is extremely lame.

Ehh, I've never heard of that song/band before so I have nothing to compair to. So it doesn't bother me at all.

I have, I love that song. I hope the cover is good.

It's a good cover, as far as I could tell--I'm not sure if the Swedish accent is there in the cover (noticeable y/j merging in that YouTube video), but otherwise it's hard to tell the difference.

I honestly couldn't tell the difference between the cover and the real song. It's done *very* well.

Music to my ears. I can't wait to get home and DL "Move Along". I've always thought it'd be a fun song to drum, glad to hear it is :)

The Kill is a joy on the guitar. I love Attack but on Guitar it's just the same chords repeated, but it has many "rock jump" moments.

Yea, thats too bad, it was the only song out of the 5 that I liked (I had never heard of any of these songs before).
I will probably still get it as a couple of people have said the cover sounds okay.
I just do not understand why they had to get a cover of this song. It only came out in 2006 and you think the band would like the exposer (maybe they think it would not be cool to be in a video game). oh well.

Maybe this needs to be stuck at the top of the message boards in big bold letters:
Rock Band will only use covers when the masters are unavailable or unusable. In most cases, that's probably because the recordings that are available have certain parts already mixed that need to be separated for the game to work properly (for example, the drums might be downmixed so that the bass drum can't be separated from the other drums.)

Exactly. Multi-track recording is more expensive, and smaller bands can't always afford (or desire) to do it.

Ok, so I bought all of these last night. On expert drums they're all fun to play, some easier than others but all relatively fun.
Now, Move Along, is a TOTAL BLAST to play on the drums. Not hard to pass, but hard to do WELL. Definitely not for the faint of heart :)

I've been trying to figure out a good drum pattern for this song. I can butcher it pretty well (ie. terrible playing style), but I found this vid on youtube (not of rockband) that I think depicts the movements required pretty well. Gonna work on some of that tonight.

* “The Kill” - 30 Seconds To Mars (from 2005’s A Beautiful Lie)
