Need help with assembly

I just got the game for Xmas, and needed some help assembling. I got the guitar and drums assembled, plugged in, and working, but can't get the mic. I unpackaged it, plugged in the usb first to the multiple port usb thing, it didnt work, then directly in to the usb thing and it didnt work. At the quickplay screen, it says connect controller for the microphone. Anyone know whats wrong?

RTFM. You have to use a xbox/ps3/ps2 controller with the mic.

quite right. the microphone doesn't function as a controller, you need a regular controller, then the game matches it with the microphone (assuming its plugged in). There's no indication that the mic's plugged in until you're at the appropriate menu for selecting the instrument.
