I'm interested in getting this game and I've been seeing it get 9.5s and 10s all over the place, but I'm still worried that it will feel like just another shooting-and-jumping adventure game, albeit a good looking one. Should I pick it up despite my reservations or is it really nothing that special?

It was a great game. It's an interactive summer blockbuster, as has been said before. It's got a great story, believable characters, and the gameplay is very fun.
also, the multiplayer is very good, if you care for that.
would you mind if I linked the first level here? It's essentially a tutorial, but it's much more than that. There's not much in the way of spoilers, other than what you'll see in the first level.

Very good game, albeit a somewhat short single player. Probably the second-best game I've played all year, and that's just because of my bias for RB.

Hmm, I tried the demo for the first one and didn't really care for it either, I think I'm gonna rent the first one and play through it and then rent the second one.

I say rent the second one now and when you're blown away by it, you can buy it and we can play multiplayer and pwn some n00bs.
I haven't even played the first one and I was able to follow the story perfectly, I'd say.

Was it really necessary to do that?
I guess I'll try renting the second one, then maybe I could join the game we have planned in the Forum Game Nights! thread.

Is it in 1080p? I'm thinking of saving it until I get a better TV.

arguably the best ps3 game on the market. 'xplosion was pretty right on with his comments.

In every way besides multiplayer, this game is much better than MW2 (a game whose obvious main focus was MP, although props to its cinematic singleplayer, Uncharted actually has exquisite writing and acting)

It swept the G4 Best of 2009 awards too. I counted at least four categories it won in, including Game of the Year.

That first mission was rather boring if you ask me. So far I am only impressed with the multiplayer. That looks more fun than Modern Warfare.

It also won Metacritic's game of the year, which is just a compilation of... you know, EVERY gaming publication. I hate G4, but Uncharted 2 is the consensus winner here.

On the spike awards, it won GOTY, but not best action-adventure. WTF?

Getting this for Christmas...so excited :D. I haven't looked forward to playing a game this much in a long time.
I bloody love Uncharted 2. Finished the single player on default difficulty and then went back for another round on a harder setting. Just as fun the second time around. And I bet it'll still be awesome the 3rd time on Crushing difficulty.
The MP is alot of fun too.
Definitely deserving of whatever awards it gets.

I haven't looked too much into it, only saw a demo of the first and wasn't too into it. I'm not much of a first person shooter person.... but if there's a game that combines that WITH a good story I'm sure I'd be more interested. Is there other things to do in this game aside from shooting people?

There's a few puzzles to be solved, and several platforming sequences, but these are interlaced with the shooty-shooty parts.

Think of it as Assassin's Creed lite with guns.

Good news, this game is third person, not first person! ;)
And yes, the story is incredible. And there are a handful of puzzles to solve (though most are incredibly easy). And there is all sorts of platforming.

Yes, Uncharted 2, get it. The single-player is unmatched and the multiplayer is amazing for ND's first attempt at it. The story is great and the graphics are top-notch.
Not to mention this is the game where Nolan North actually does a great job voicing Drake (other than, you know, Assassin's Creed, Shadow Complex, Army of Two: The 40th Day, Dark Void, etc., etc., etc.,)

Ya know, i'm about 65% of the way through this game, and while it is fun, it's not anything groundbreaking. The train level was easily the most memorable part of the game thus far. I think that the shooting sequences in the game feel a little out of place. I can't really put my finger on it, but something about the combat really detracts from the adventure parts of the game. One minute it feels like a good old fashioned Tomb Raider game and then at others (combat) it really comes across as bland, tedious, and unnecessary. I feel like they threw in the combat just to grab the attention of all the FPS fans out there.

I think that's a fair statement to make, but you know as well as I do, they had to do whatever they could to increase the demographic for this game.
The thing I like most about it is the big Hollywood set pieces, like the train or the the vehicle shoot out. In most games, those would be cutscenes. In U2, you get to play the cutscenes. It helps illustrate (to me at least) exactly why games can be more fulfilling than movies.

You're doing it wrong. Don't just sit behind the perfectly shaped rubble for cover, toss a grenade, climb the pole with the metal sign, and hide behind it for cover AND height advantage, not to mention immunity from those ***** grenades.
But one thing about the combat that irks me, Drake could maybe pistol whip or hit the guys with the butt of his rifle, instead of going all fisticuffs. The melee attacks in single-player are horribly weak.

I don't like when game developers feel they need to do this. I liked when games were one definable genre and stuck to it. Incorporating too many playing styles makes for a very inconsistent gaming experience in my eyes.
The story for UC2 isn't anything special or that hadn't really been done before. It's very very similar to many of the Tomb Raider stories. Lara also happens to be searching for Shang-ri La/Pandora's Box in most, if not all, of the franchise installments.

Sometimes combining genre brings out something "fresh" and could be considered innovative. It just has to be done right and of course not everyone will appreciate it.
I feel like they took Tomb Raider and made it better. I also don't mind all the gun fights, in fact I had a blast with them!
To each their own.

Haven't played the second yet (I will soon though.)
I will say that the FIRST one was near perfect. The only bad things in the game I thought were the short single player, iffy SixAxis stuff (I'm looking at you grenades), and the firefights went on a little too long in some places.

I agree with Oscar on some points, some of the battles feel klunky and unnecessary, while others are great. And the story isn't exactly original, like he said it's highly reminiscent of Tomb Raider as well as Indiana Jones.
That being siad, I still enjoyed the game very much, felt like an interactive movie, not GOTY for me though.
And the multiplayer is god awful.
