YES!! Every year since 2004 the UK Top 40 has been plagued with this X Factor rubbish and it ALWAYS gets the Christmas #1!
It's currently #1 on iTunes, Play.com, Amazon UK and HMV!

Oh Simon, you're silly.
Actually, this whole thing is silly. >_>

I believe 4chan is busy voting Portia to the #1 model spot, but maybe they're doing this, as well. Haven't checked in on the little scamps for a while.

I still say counter-programming a single just buys into the mentality of selling singles.
Way to help in destroying the music industry...

The smart ideal would have been to do this with an great sounding indie band so they could go mainstream and catch their big break seeing how this marketing seems to work.

Who cares? Joe McElderry rocks even if he doesn't get the number one.
It's not like people in the US really grasp the concept or the enormity of being Christmas number one in the UK.

It's nice right now, but I really don't know if the protesters can keep it up. A bunch of people will most likely buy the first day, but will they buy the rest of the week?
ITunes is pretty smart. They reduced the price of RATM's album to four pounds and featured the band on the front page on the UK iTunes homepage. Almost makes this protest seem pointless.

Hahah - that trailer is indeed, genius.
Also loving this campaign. Yes it does make the big record companies more money, no it won't make Simon Cowell any less money, but it's still hella funny, and anything that topples the vapid pre-packaged X-Factor tripe has got to be worth it!

Congratulations to the British public getting them to the No 1 spot at Xmas. Real music, great band and a great public vote for music.
Anyone from USA wont know that the Xfactor got pipped to the UK no 1 spot by Rage Against the Machines, a vote from the public to say enough is enough of this conveyor belt of crap from simon cowell

A british singing show called X-Factor has topped Christmas charts 4 years in a row. A large number of people got together to vote Killing In The Name to the Christmas number 1 spot to keep X-Factor from winning again. They succeeded
I'm loving this. We must celebrate by getting this song next week. Weezer can wait

As each's single battled this week for the Christmas #1 spot in the UK, "X Factor" winner Joe McElderry said he'd never heard Rage Against The Machine's "Killing In The Name". Well, I guess someone played it for him.
The 18-year-old said, "They can't be serious! I had no idea what it sounded like. It's dreadful and I hate it. How could anyone enjoy this? Can you imagine the grandmas hearing this over Christmas lunch? I wouldn't buy it. It's a nought out of ten from me. Simon Cowell wouldn't like it. They wouldn't get through to boot camp on 'The X Factor' – they're just shouting."
Joe added about his own single, a cover of Miley Cyrus' "The Climb", 'I will be really disappointed if it doesn't go to #1 after all the effort I've put in to this and winning the show."
Looks like Joe is disappointed.

Yer its awesome, im in the uk and every year we get delivered some crap x-factor rubbish that sounds the same every year, its a miley cyrus cover too. I think RATM said if they get number 1 in the charts they will do a free gig in the uk.
The person they stopped is being really stupid about this, hes throwing darts at the singers face on a picture, bloody moron he didnt even start it, they didnt even start it it was us the public.

People, they picked this song because it was a well known song and they wanted people to participate. If they had picked some unknown song by RATM or even a song by some unknown indie band, nobody would have wanted to participate. Try to use some critical thinking folks, they had to use a high profile song of some kind in order to have a chance of succeeding.
I am SO glad it won, RATM is awesome and these X-Factor tards deserve to lose.

Sounds like he has the personality of a wet towel.
And the taste of one, too.
Still, he's got a point. And it's precisely what the music industry gets wrong.
Look at some of the most iconic musicians of yesteryear... Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin... if a younger version of any of these people showed up to the auditions of X Factor or American Idol, they'd be mocked off the stage by Simon.
To music labels' A&R departments: Vocal tone means nothing if they have nothing to sing. End. Of. Discussion.

Uhh this happened in the UK. So this isn't American stupidity for once.
Vocal tone means nothing if they have nothing to sing.
One of the most succinct ways of putting it I've seen. How the singer sounds is secondary to what they have to say, otherwise I wouldn't be able to listen to Nevermind the Bollocks at all because I hate Johnny Rotten's voice.

Weve been having a right laugh about this. Its great to see people power still exists and for all the dominance they have on the record markets that the internet can come along and beat an endless stream of covers dominating charts despite the fact it was only available for download only.
They slashed the price of the X Factor cover this year by 60% in an attempt to have it pip the campaign to get RATM to the number 1 spot and still failed. People power folks, Simon still gets minted as for all it was second place the song gained 450,000 sales and RATM are giving away a large chunk of all the proceedings to Shelter the charity for the homeless. Whatever side you vouched for its win win.
Im just glad RATM and us determined brits did it - im sick fed up of the grip that reality shows have on peoples lives now... we are like sheep and each week i can swear blind there is a new one starting on TV. Heck MTV the "music" TV network is chock a block with reality shows featuring all sorts of crap from peoples "cribs" to music legends like Paris Hilton pouting whilst we are supposed to pretend there is a personality behind the lips doing it.
We should start an Anti-Foo Fighters as DLC campaign and instead install Rick Astley as our champion :p

I don't feel like reading this whole thread, but I would like to out this had nothing to with 4chan.... There are plenty of spin-offs of 4chan after it was sold awhile back. No Elitist stayed on 4chan and there all on a new website, but I will not link it because if you type it in the address bar it brings you to every disturbing image on the internet and locks your screen, but if you know the correct code it works.
Long story short: 4chan is ****.
Source: I know at least 3 4chan lovers that dropped out of school due to stalking the website back in the day.

I love Rage. I'm so happy for the chartings they are getting. Freaking lucky UK lol.
My favorite band because they actually got me into music like theirs after listening to each song a billion times and loving each message that gets spilled into my brain, I can never stop liking them.
My biggest ideal is to see them live.
