View Full Version : Green Day Fan's Experience of a Lifetime

I've been a massive Green Day fan for about 6 years and I saw them live for the 2nd time on August 12th, 2009 and Billie Joe pulled me on stage to sing one of their songs (LONGVIEW) in front of almost 10,000 people.
It feels like a crazzzzzzzzzy dream! I still can't believe it happened.

But the reason for this thread is, you guys should check out my video of it.
Even if you don't like Green Day, its still incredible!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24HtRboFDlI

I'm so grateful for this video, if I didn't have it I would have a very hard time believing that it happened.

Also my story about the whole day of the Green Day concert is pretty incredible and lucky. I got to go inside the venue a couple hours early and watch Green Day do their soundcheck. They played 4 songs and I was 1 of 39 people that got to be there. It was like 2 concerts in one day. Then after the soundcheck, we got to go in a VIP room and get free food, drinks, and T-shirts. Also, prior to the concert, I had won a photography contest that allowed me to be inside the barricade for Green Day's first 2 songs to take as many pictures as I could. So I got to take pictures while leaning against the stage. I made SO many people jealous. haha. Then after the 2 songs were up, I jumped over the barricade and got right in the front with my mom and my best friend. I thought my luck was over until before I knew it I was sharing the mic with Billie Joe in front of 10,000 people. I wrote a really really long review of the show, with all these things in more detail. I'll probably post it on here later.

Thanks guys. :D

But yeah, you blew the second person out of the water, btw. Haha, I'm a huge Green Day fan, I probably know Holiday the best out of all their songs, was hoping Billie would pull someone up for that. I was right at the barrier on the left side. Favorite. Concert. Ever.

I'm sure there could have been far worse than you and Chuck. The good thing is, you had energy AND singed pretty well. haha. Energy is what counts, and I think that's better, when it comes to guesting for big bands, haha

k mcpansy
12-20-2009, 02:45 AM
looking back, i would have figured that I would probably start singing hitchin a ride or something and then pee my pants haha, but when i turned around and saw all those people, this person came out of me that i didn't know existed. it was the best feeling in the world.

I would have been unable to move in front of all those people AND Green Day.

That was awesome. You were pretty natural up there, considering you're not an actual member of the band.

Congrats! I was near the front at Glasgow, and just don't have the cahones to go on stage with Green Day, I'd faint, seriously.

Your singing wasn't that bad, and loved the crowd singalong you had going with "Hey!", very Billie-Joe-esque!

they did this at the concert I went to aswell. The singers that went up sucked way more though lol. The Green day concert I went to was easily the best concert I've been to so far.

I would never be able to go on stage and sing in front of that many people. I'd die lol

I dont think I could've done that without trying to bush the band off the stage. but congrats, I'm sure it was the best time ever. If only Metallica and Megadeth did that.

This would be my dream! Except, the band would be Dream Theater....

and I would sing and play guitar to Octavarium...

and then they invite me to join the band...

then we make Metropolis Pt.3...

yeah, you get my point.

Some girls near me in the crowd were pissed off that I got to go up there haha, but I think what really made them mad was during Franz Ferdinand, their drummer threw his drumstick and those girls tried to get it and it hit their hands and fell on the ground inside the barricade where I was. I picked it up and was actually going to give it to them but i saw that the stick said the drummers name on it along with Franz Ferdinand on it so i was like hell yeah I'm keeping this haha.

At the show they played in my city (don't really remember when that was, sometime in 2004) they actually pulled 3 people from the audience to play a song.
They just asked, and went thru some basic motions with them to make sure they knew what they were doing. Then they played a whole song in front of a sold out arena with Billy on vocals.

After the song ended, Billy asked the guitarist (apparently some 16-ish year old boy) if he liked playing that guitar. The answer of course was yes, to which Billy just said "Take it, it's yours".

Mind you, I was not actually at that show. A couple of friends just told me the story. Not a huge Green Day fan but it would have been worth it just to see that.

Current bassist for Chicago. Huge pick. I don't use picks to play bass much, though :)

I would really like to see them as well. I'm not a superfan, but they have plenty of songs I really like. I actually think 21st Century Breakdown may be their best album yet, which I notice isn't an opinion that's really shared by Green Day fans. I really like Dookie, but prefer their more "mature" stuff (Nimrod and onwards). That said, I think my favorite song by them is Welcome to Paradise, though, which is from Dookie.

I think I'll be seeing Muse, though I'm actually more interested in the Silversun Pickups. I'm also hoping I'll be able to see Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey.

I would **** myself....and then I would lose all my friends because I would tell that story every 15 minutes

EDIT: Just watched the video in the OP :) that's really cool...I don't know they're music as well as I'd like, but they were one of the 3 bands that got me into rock (the other 2 being SOAD and Linkin Park...I was a late bloomer lol) I've seen Linkin Park and SOAD's broken up ( :( ) so I'm definitely gonna try to catch Green Day next time they come my way

its so awesome that they actually care about their fans and make them feel like individuals and like you matter. most bands just come out, play their music, and leave. billie joe even breaks up fights or different stuff going on in the crowd so that everyone has a good time. their so incredible. :D

I played bass with Teenage Bottlerocket. In front of like 50 people though haha. Although i got to hang out with the band and did not need a VIP pass of any sort. Just the 10 dollar ticket

i wish the soundcheck pass was like a backstage pass :( i'd give anything to meet green day. i don't even know what i would say lol. i'd probably cry and just tell them how much they've inspired me and all that cheesy but true stuff... or i'd probably crack and make a fool of myself haha

Because most of the time they're too full of themselves to bother with anything else.

Doesn't mean the band members can't be douches. I love System of a Down, but that doesn't that Daron Malakian isn't a pretentious douche.

im lucky that all of my favorite bands seem to be cool guys.I've met the guys from Coheed many times, and Claudio Sanchez may be the nicest, most genuine rock star on the planet. I met SSPU and they were all incredibly nice, especially the lead singer.Green Day is obviously really good to their fans,so thats 3 for 3. :)

That's like my dream.....but with Muse....and I play drums....so in actuality, its pretty different.

But this is pretty damn awesome. Glad you had a great time.

I've always wanted to wreck the instruments with The Who and do the Windmill with Pete.

Well, What I was saying was really a joke considering the Blue Man Group don't talk. Ever. So you can't tell if their douches or extremely nice guys. :p

But that's awesome! I would love to see BMG live again.

I used to have a BMG Myspace. It was originally the first one and the only one. It ended up getting so huge I had to have like 2 other people help me with the profile because it was getting so overwhelming. People loved it, and I even think the BMG manager was showed the page, and he loved it too. Then this fake page came up, said they were the real one and had ours deleted. It was such a shame. The fake BMG Myspace only has some stupid audio thing, whereas at least ours had actual BMG music on it.

they don't have an official myspace?

Nope. Some artists don't even have a Myspace. Like the Bon Jovi one on Myspace, yeah, that's a fan page.
