Okay, so I have an XBox 360 Elite. My friend is playing Fable 2 the other day and is *****ing and complaining about the 100 or so milliseconds of video lag from my TV. In all his infinite wisdom, he pulls the HDMI cable out of the back of my console WHILE IT IS RUNNING, and plugs in NOT my newer component/RCA cables, but the RCA cables from a 1st generation 360.

Then he turns my console off and back on, and lo and behold, I get one flashing red quadrant of the Ring of Death. My screen gives me error E74, whatever the hell that means.

Can anyone help me? I've tried everything, and I can't lose my XBox! It'd mean losing RB2 and Forza Motorsport 3.

E74 is just about as bad as the RRoD.

You know what time it is? Time for you to call microsoft, and send your 360 in! Ohh, the joys of having an Xbox 360. Merry Christmas!

Seriously though, it's a type of hardware failure and you have to send it in to get it fixed.

I had one just little over a year ago.

Make your friend buy you a new Xbox (if it isn't under warranty, that is). (http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/kb.aspx?id=969905&lcid=1033&category=hardware)

Make sure you video tape it.

On a semi-related note. A little over 8 months ago, my friend popped his Hard Drive into my other friends 360 and caused him to get the RRoD. The friend with the broken 360 immediately went out and bought a new 360.

Yeah, well, I'm flat broke, so that's not exactly an option here.

This is why I hate Microsoft. Why can't they make a console that DOESN'T flip out if a cord gets yanked?

Yeah, same here. My other 360 that I had before I got the new one I have now (I got it almost 1 week ago) actually did RRoD on me, and when I went to trade it in, it didn't RR, but the Disc Tray wouldn't open. So, with the games and the 360 I traded in, I got about $120. I had $40 in my wallet (it was actually there to pay that friend back for the other $20 I borrowed for Left 4 Dead 2), so I went to one of my friends and loaned $50 from him. So now I owe him like $70. :p

It seems that the warranty period is 3 years, so just send it in to Microsoft.
