I haven't used the mic much but it seems to do it automatically for me whenever your star power gets up high enough.

As for the drums you can just refuse to play the solo parts once your star power is up high enough to save it for bringing a player back in but I would only do this on really hard songs that your unsure of whether or not a guitar player might fail out.

Activate overdrive, same as with the guitar.

Once you get enough overdrive for.....

...mic, gold bars will start showing up. Yell something into those.

...drums, thick colored lines will appear instead of blocks. Hit whatever you want in that section, and at the end a note will appear (green if you're right handed). Hit that note to activate overdrive.

Nope. It's one of the only downsides. I can't tell you how many times my band died because the game just wouldn't let us make it to the next solo section. I had enough overdrive on the drums to save them, but if that red bar doesn't hold out, you're doomed.

No, it's a little more strategic for drummers and vocalists. Drummers have to wait for those free-fill sections, bang away and then hit the green pad to activate Overdrive. Vocalists can only do it during the yellow/gold sections, which means that for longer songs with instrumental portions, such as Green Grass & High Tides, the vocalist is basically locked out, and can't do much other than play tambourine for the remainder of the song.

I didn't read but the first two of the responses, the answer is "Read the manual" its actually pretty informative unlike most games. You will find out things by reading that thing that isn't apparent like turning up your own voice in the mic and turning down the voice of the real artist
