View Full Version : Trigger / Kickbox Question

I bought a pair of Rock Pedals about 25 days ago, and I'm thinking of returning them (still have 5 days left). It's not that they don't work well, because they do work as advertised. It's just that I have a double bass pedal (image attached) that I could use with a trigger and kickbox, and I found a few screamin' deals on used KD-8's on Ebay. Any thoughts from those who have tried both? Again, the rock pedals work just fine, but having read a bit, it sounds like the trigger/pad is the way to go.

I switched to a KD-8 setup, not double bass, and wouldn't change back for anything. The feedback you get from actually striking something makes a huge difference.

Agreed, there is absolutely no comparison between a magnetic switch modded pedal and a real impact sensor kick trigger pad.

Should I be leery of buying a used KD-8? In other words, could overuse cause the piezo to wear out or be damaged? I found these two and am considering the Buy it Now on the first one. Also, is the KD-8 the model I want?

option #1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Roland-KD-8-KD8-Kick-Trigger-Pad-for-V-Drums_W0QQitemZ110474193015QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_D efaultDomain_0?hash=item19b8c66877) (has a Buy it Now option)

option #2 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Roland-KD-8-Electronic-Kick-Drum-Pad_W0QQitemZ300381126057QQcmdZViewItemQQptZKeyboa rds_MIDI?hash=item45f01c3da9)

Not really, no. Roland products are the best of the best when it comes to e-drums.

Okay: two more questions.

How is the noise level of the beaters striking the trigger pad?

And should I be looking at this (http://rockbandkickbox.com/store/) for a box?

Thanks for your help.

It's not bad at all (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AA1PFLdak4k).

And yes.

Hey David, I just found one of your videos on YouTube, and I was wondering: do you still stand by your assessment that the KP65 is the way to go? I found it at Musician's Friend (http://drums-percussion.musiciansfriend.com/product/Yamaha-KP65-Electronic-Kick-Pad-for-DTXpressII?sku=446653) for 60 bucks with free shipping, but one of the reviewers said the trigger was starting to drop notes. Would I be better off with a used KD-8 ($90) or a new KP65 ($60)? As always......thanks for the advice.

The KD-8 is built to be more durable, so will last longer. Thus, it will also hold its value longer in case you ever decide to sell it.

I can't answer that question for you. Only you...can prevent forest fires...er...I mean, can answer the question of whether the extra $30 is worth it to you.
