View Full Version : Drum Fills: More Hits = More Points?

My friends all go nuts on the pads when a fill spot shows up no matter the song, becuase they feel that more hits equals more points, much like they (mistakenly) believe that more whammy equals more points.

I haven't fully tested it, but am I correct in assuming that the only hit that matters in a fill is the one to start it and the green hit to end it and go into overdrive?

Drum fills = no points.

Also, it does seem you have to hit a certain amount of pads for the green note at the end to show up, but I don't think it has to show up for you to hit it. I always try to make my fills sound cool anyway.

I'd love to hear a qualified response on this, as most of my friends just slam every pad as fast as they possibly can and it sounds downright atrocious in the middle of a generally good session, and I'd love to tell them they're doing it wrong. :P

Everything said so far is correct. Drum fills = no points. You have to hit the drums (it can be the same pad or multiple ones) a few times to get the final crash to show up so you can activate the overdrive. like somewhere between 2 and 4. Drum fills also = no extra overdrive. It won't fill up he bar anymore. The only purpose on the drum fill is to sound cool, and to possibly deploy the overdrive (also, if you don't do it, it's going to keep coming up, robbing you of future points on real notes you could have been hitting)

Big rock endings = points for flailing. My guess is that they're getting them confused. Either that, or maybe they think what they're doing is cool.

There is no reason to not keep a simple fill that flows well with the song. My only gripe is, since you can't get access to the cymbols when in fill mode, you're kinda limited on what you can do with it. Tom and snare rolls sound great in some songs, in others it seems wierd.

Green pad is cymbal throughout the fill sections. But there's no hi-hat. You get a snare, two toms, and a cymbal during fills.

Thanks for the information, guys. It'll make me feel a lot better to know that their "Animal" drumming won't be getting them a better score, at least not during the fills. Now to convince them that their score isn't going up during those sections so they can drum on-beat.
