I started playing the GH series this past summer, starting with GH2 on my buddy's 360. I liked it so much, that I picked up a copy for the PS2. Alas, I have a PS3 and my PS2 is in my son's room. I soon found out about the BC issue with the GH series on the PS3, but I liked GH so much that I purchased an extra PS2. Over the next few weeks I also purhcased GH1 and Encore: Rock the 80's.

Like most others, I started on easy, moved to medium pretty quickly, then eventually advanced to hard. For some reason I just didn't "get it", and couldn't beat a single song in GH2 on hard. I then tried 80's on hard, and found that I got through the song list without much issue. I then went through and defeated GH1 on hard. After that I was good enough to finally play GH2 on hard. Within a day, I had beat GH1, GH2, and the 80's all on hard. So I moved to expert.

That was back in August. Since then, I haven't been able to beat any of the games. On GH1, I was stuck on Cowboys from Hell and Bark at the Moon. On GH2, I can't beat a single song on the last tier. On the 80's, I am stuck on Electric Eye. For some reason, I've reached my ceiling.

So I picked up GH3 for the PS3 in October, and after two days put it down and haven't played it since. I eagerly awaited RB, and got it on launch day. I beat solo guitar on hard on the second day, and since then I've got Highway Star, Flirting With Disaster, and Green Grass and High Tides left on expert. For the first two, I can't get past the respective solos. I haven't attempted the last song.

So I'm on the last tier on GH1, GH2, 80's, and RB, all on expert. I've never gotten 5 gold stars(except for a song on the 80's on medium). I've never gotten 100%, much less FC'd a song. I am not one of the elite players by any means.

But over this past Sunday and Monday I've had an interesting timespan. I played some solo career, expert, in RB and I actually got 5 gold stars on the Garbage song. I was amazed. I didn't FC the song, because like a dumbass I missed the LAST FRIGGIN NOTE. Regardless, I was extremely pleased. I then played through Black Hole Sun, and while I didn't get 5 gold stars, I did increase my score by almost 35 thousand points.

I checked the leaderboards(PS3), and although I 5 gold starred the garbage song, I was in the ~350 range. On Black Hole Sun, I was under 200. Interesting.

After checking the leaderboards, I went back in to play some more and my strum bar promptly took a dump. So no more RB for me for a while.

To fill the void, the next day I decided to play some GH1 for the first time in nearly three months. The last time I played it I had beat Bark at the Moon(just barely), so all I had left was CFH. Well, it took me 11 tries, but I finally beat it on expert. It was quite sad. I was in the red for almost the entire song. I only had a 35 note streak, and finished with a lowly 73% accuracy. But I don't give a damn. I finally beat one of those damned games on expert.

So - despite finally braking my Strat, I beat GH1 and my first 5 gold star song in less than a day.

Sorry for the long read - but I had to share my accomplishments with the comminuty.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and not be an *******.

I'm not a top tier player myself, very far from it, in fact, and so, as a fellow non-elite, I offer my most sincere congratulations on your accomplishment. To pull out the overly cliche terms, "practice does make perfect"! And "Every dog gets his day". Congrats dude, and keep rockin' until you beat those songs! :D

Hey, about Highway Star on Expert. If you're good at that finger tapping thing people do off a guitar, like on a table top where you put your pinky down first, then before you get to the super repeating part, simply flip your hand on the neck, and work from there.

Trust me, it works. It's how I had to do it. You might need to sit or tighten up your strap. When you get a new guitar, anyway.

finger tapping is the key, gotta do it to really pass it, unless your like one of those nerds that played GHII in the world series of video games (yes it exists). its hard, but you'll get it. Sorry to hear about you faulty equipment

Well done mate :) I remember the immense satisfaction when I finally beat hangar 18 on expert in gh2. That's probably the song I had to play the most times before I was able to beat it... if you don't count jordan.

I don't have rb yet but I played it when they showed it at a place her in sweden. I was able to sightread HS and beat it on the first try. The solo's not that hard really. Just think about not letting go of the lowest button then you can just hit the higher notes with your other fingers. No tapping needed... and yes I am one of those nerds, but I didn't get to play in the world series since it got canceled before I got the chance :(
