And now, from the people who brought you Michael Jackson surrounded by 3,500 children and Janet Jackson's right breast, we have the most controversial Super Bowl halftime performer of all.
Pete the Pervert.
That would be Pete Townshend of The Who, unless child advocacy groups have their way. They're raising a stink over the NFL giving the world's biggest stage to an ex-registered sex offender.
"Inviting Townshend to play is a blatant disregard to the values of American families and a slap in the face to victims of child sexual abuse," proclaims the release from Child Abuse Watch.
Actually, the advocacy groups are slapping the face of American values. In a fanatical quest to promote their cause they're willing to trash fairness and common sense.
Yikes, I just cringed while writing that. I mean, who besides Roman Polanski doesn't want to prevent child abuse?
It's also much more fashionable to rip the NFL, that soulless corporation that would employ a serial dog killer if he sold tickets.

At this rate, I can't wait till they bring back marching bands to do halftime. Although non-brass instrumentalists would be deeply offended, so screw that too I guess.

Nothing like letting facts get in the way of a good old fashioned witch hunt.

And to think, the NFL has gotten into a habit of hiring these older musicians to do the Super Bowl halftime show on the grounds that they were safer and less controversial...

At this point, i don't think The Who should play, for the soul fact that i bet a whole bunch of dumbasses will buy superbowl tickets just to boo them. Its ridiculous how sensitive people are nowadays...

IF that is true, do you think anybody will be able to hear them? The Who is one of the loudest bands on Earth.

It wouldn't be America if someone wasn't pissed off or offended. I seriously wonder if there are groups who just look for any which reason to protest anything

Though that is true, The Who would be able to hear them, and they do not deserve that kind of disrespect.

So...these people are clueless? The police found no images on Townshend's computers or anything, the only link being a charge he put towards a site that led to those images, which was later found to be false anyways. Townshend only agreed to register as part of a caution from the police, and it was only for 5 years.

We are talking about America here.
"Screw the facts! I heard he went to a child pornography site once! I don't want my children seeing him on MY television screen!"

I find it funny that people actually think the NFL is considering this.
I mean really, The Who is one of the biggest bands of all time. I wouldn't be surprised if who-knows-how-many households will be tuning in despite not even liking Football, just because, well, it's THE WHO.
If the NFL likes money, they will ignore this. And if football truly is the American sport, I can assure you they like money enough to ignore this.
