We just got a Wii and Lego Rock Band, and 1 guitar controller. We don't have drums or a microphone. We're trying to start Rock Band but it won't let us proceed with out a mic. Is a mic required? Everything I've read seems to say that a guitar, drums, /or/ mic is required. So I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Can we play with only 1 guitar, and no other controllers? Thanks for any help

The issue is you're navigating the game with a separate Wiimote, when you do that the game thinks you want to play as a singer, thus the mic requirement.
Use the guitar to navigate the menus and you should be good to go.

thanks for the note. Unfortunately I haven't been able to navigate with the guitar at all (it's a Psyclone Essentials wireless guitar for Wii). I've tried the connection a few times between the guitar and the receiver and it tells me that the connection has been made (I've tried new batteries, too). Is there a point after which I shouldn't use the Wiimote at all? (fwiw, using the guitar never did anything). Could it possible be a bad guitar? thanks for your help!

I've not any experience with that guitar, nor much with the Wii itself. Once you get the game up and running, are you able to use the guitar at all? Does it connect?

Usually you start using the guitar to navigate when you are at Rock Band's main menu. Use the strum bar to move up and down, and the green fret button to select, the red fret button to go back.

I've followed the procedures to connect and the feedback I'm getting (blinking light on receiver and then steady light) tells me that I've done it right (at least according to the guitar manual). But this must be the problem....that the connection isn't happening. And, no, strumming the bar gets no response. Maybe I'll re-read the manual on how to connect a 12th time and see if I'm the one who' messing it up. :-) thanks again for the replies; I appreciate it

If it's the same one they're talking about here (http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118268&page=2), try setting the switch to Guitar Hero mode. Apparently that works.

that did it! turns out the guitar controller manufacturer mislabeled the instructions in the manual....so for Rock Band, you need to read the Guitar Hero part. thanks everyone!

I am having a similar issue. My equipment is as follows;
Wii, Lego Rock Band, Beatles Rickenbacker 325 guitar, 2 Wii motes
I can get into the game, the music starts and i have no fretboard on the screen, it just shows the lego characters rocking out on stage, i can ocassionaly sneak a correct note in here or there so i know the guitar is "working".
The guitar connects as player 2 with one wiimote connected and as player 3 when the two wiimotes are up., It works fine to navigate the menus.
What do i do. Does this game work without the microphone?

From the Main Menu, go into your Game Modifiers (I believe it's under the Options or Extras menu) and make sure you have Performance Mode turned OFF.

Thank you, that worked like a charm. I believe i was messing with those options before I got the guitar.:):):)
