Lego Rock Band - on screen symbols

This is probably a really simple question, but can someone please explain what the little toggle / drum stick symbol means? Sometimes it appears at the bottom right corner and is supposed to switch between CAPS text, etc (like how the green symbol indicates "confirm"). I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do!

I think you're referring to the "kick pedal" graphic. I think it's used for things like switching the sort category in song lists.
