Compatability

Hi all.

I know there is controvesy at the moment regarding whose guitar plays with which console etc. I just wondered if we could clear up what has been tested etc.

So....if anyone can help this would be greatly apprecaited. Can you just reply saying if you have tested any of these and whether or not they work:

RB = Rock Band
GH = Guitar Hero

360 RB Guitar on PS3 RB
360 GH Guitar on PS3 RB
PS2 GH Guitar on PS3 RB

Here's the simple answer.

There is no cross-compatability with any PS and Xbox products for these games. In other words, nothing from a PS2 or PS3 will work on a 360, and nothing from a 360 will work on a PS2 or PS3. Again, in other words:

PS3 Rockband Instruments work on PS2


If you have a PS2 and can't find Rockband for PS2 buy the PS3 Bundle plus the PS2 Game and your good to go.

Here's the simple answer.

I can also verify that the XBox controllers do NOT work on the PS2.

For the PS2 version of Rock Band, any guitar that uses the PS2 controller port will work with PS2 Rock Band. Yes, this includes the Guitar Hero SG Guitar and the wireless Guitar Hero Kramer Guitar. I've personally tested both of these and they work.

Not sure if anyone has answered this yet. Can anyone link an official statement or has anyone tested that Guitar Hero 1 guitars work with the Playstation 2 version of Rock Band? The guy above said the GH2 controllers work, but I need to know about GH1.

Once again for clarity that's GH1 PS2 guitars with PS2 RB game.... do they work?

As far as I am aware, there is no circumstance on a real, actual PS2 under which a real, actual, Red-Octane-manufactured GH2 guitar will work and a real, actual, Red-Octane-manufactured GH1 guitar will not work.

(If you're talking about third party guitars, licensed or unlicensed, then yeah, it's an open question. There were unlicensed third party guitars that worked with GH1 but not with GH2.)

Tell me there's someone at Sony thinking about this sort of thing, please. They're supposed to make you want to upgrade to the PS3, not downgrade to the PS2.

What's Sony got to do with it? These aren't first-party games/peripherals.

PS2 GH1 and GH2 guitars work with PS2 Rockband, I know this first hand as I loaned my old Ps2 guitars to my brother for his PS2 Rockband.

PS3 RB controllers, all of them, work with the PS2. From what I have read, but have not actually seen, the PS2 and PS3 controllers for RB are exactly the same.

Also PS2 and PS3 USB headsets are fully compatible with each other and the Rockband game.

do PS3 guitar hero guitars work with PS3 Rockband or vice versa? I bought Guitar Hero 3 for the sole purpose that it would give me an extra guitar for Rockband as well. i think i got screwed.

And funky_mnky: no, the GH3 controller will not work in Rock Band. Harmonix wanted it to work, and even made a patch to do it. But Activision would not allow it unless they get compensation from Harmonix.
