I don't have one of those fancy brushes or anything, but being a huge nerd, I do have a never-ending supply of compressed air cans. Is it safe to use these to blow dust off of records before playing them? I figure it has to be, since the brushes are being physically rubbed across the record surface and those are fine. However, I don't know what chemicals may be in the compressed air, and whether or not that has any negative impact on the album.

It should be ok - I've checked the general list of ingredients and can't see anything in there that would cause issues, but then I've always got several anti-static brushes and cloths around specifically for cleaning my vinyl...
