Wireless Adapter issues (I think)

I got Rock Band (for the playstation 2) for christmas, ad when I set everything up it won't read the disc, and try to sync the guitar with the wireless adapter it won't work as well. I'm doing what the instructions are telling me to but it doesn't seem to work. I've been told to get a newer playstation 2 but that doesn't solve my guitar problem. when I push the little button on the Adapter is there supposed to be a blinking light on it, like on the guitar??????
