He is not the best modern guitarist. Best modern slide guitarist, but not overall. I bet half of the people here don't even know who he is.

I have heard of him, but it's probably hard for him to get into the main game because they'd lean toward more famous bands in his genre from the 70s like the Allman Bros. Though he'd definately be an awesome choice for extra /dlc songs.

my friend went to clapton's concert tour when it came in town and told me that derek trucks played with him and said he was better than clapton, so i looked him up and he has been my favorite guitarist since

Hate to resurect an old thread, but Derek Trucks has to be looked at as one of the greatest guitar players of our time. I also saw him on Claptons last world tour, and he is on par, or better then Clapton right now. It is a known fact that Clapton tours only with the best, and he could not have made a better choice then Derek for his tour. His music isnt just mindless shredding, it has great composition and sound.
