Substitution question

Ok, I got Rock Band (360) for Christmas and we all had a good time listening to my brother sing Paranoid in an operatic tenor. But after two people went to bed, my friend and I wanted to keep playing in BWT mode. So I tried to change the band roster, but all it does is say "Dave is substituted by Dave" the character I just tried to remove. Is it possible to continue playing in tour mode with just two people and two AI-controlled players?

yea. when you start up you can chose players but the leader always has to stay the same
