I've lost count how many times this has happened...
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - A 19-year-old Austin Peay State University honors student broke a world record Tuesday at 4:22 a.m. David Scherer broke the world record for playing a video game longer than anyone else in the world.
Scherer at the Retro Classic Arcade in Clarksville broke the previous world record of 40 hours and 21 minutes, and at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday he was still playing.
Scherer has been continuously playing Grand Theft Auto since Sunday afternoon, and he plans to keep playing. When will he stop? Scherer doesn't even know the answer to that question.
NewsChannel 5 was told the 19-year-old even took one less bathroom break than the previous record holder and completed more of the game itself.
Scherer said he is not just playing for the title. He is trying to raise money to help build his swim team an indoor pool facility.

It's nice that he's doing it for a good cause.

I like that they're doing it for a good cause but really?

Realy?
I'm pretty sure hold that record. I was glued to my TV when FF XII came out.

Let's get a group of Rock Banders and play the Infinite Setlist to show them how it is done.

When I played FFX for the first time I was pushing 35 hours. (It was x-mas break, nothing to do, and I was hooked). Those extra hours would be killer though.

Pfft, my PS2 hasn't been turned off in a week.

I think the only reason the record is in that range is because they've never hooked a camera up to someone playing World of Warcraft.

Pretty cool of him to do it for a worthwhile cause. I love video games to death but I don't think I could play a game for more than a few hours without wanting to go and listen to music or something.

I beat most of my games in that amount of time.

Except for open ended games like Football Manager I think even a mediocre gamer like me has. Having said that this is well below some efforts that have been done, aren't there bands who've done ~72 hours on RB2? Next time get a moderator in.

This is a fantastic idea.
Buy ALL DLC and make one massive setlist!

I think Rock Band would be much tougher due to the fact that you're actually utilizing more movement. For one, your vocalist throat would be damaged for weeks trying to attempt a 48 hour plus session. The drummer would definitely get tired. Guitar and Bass would probably last longer, but hand cramps would certainly be a possibility.

Guinness let Tommy Tiernan take short breaks after every hour of straight performance when he went for the World Record standup comedy show. No reason to think the same wouldn't be extended to gamers.
