I must admit, when I first heard this song on the radio I wasnt a big fan.. After hearing it a BILLION times it finally grew on me and was excited to see this as DLC.
Expert drummers - How do you like the crossovers?
As a real drummer I found this beat to be very natural, though crossing-over can be tough with the small pads at first (and also the fact that you are crossing-over to the snare on the right [yellow pad] as opposed to the snare being 'below' the hi - hats on a real kit).
Anyway, its a super fun song to play. The Kill by TSTM is also a fun jam-a-long. Thanks HMX for the new stuff every week. Its like X-Mas every tuesday.

I've actually just been cheating it like crazy and just double hitting with my left hand. When I get some alone time with it I was going to start practicing the crossovers. Either way, I think it's a blast to play on drums.
Edit: Just thought I'd also point out, I can really get used to the 99 cent songs. I have zero interest in the 30 seconds to mars songs, but I think I'm still going to end up buying them just for the price. At the 2 dollar price point, it's been really easy to avoid buying certain songs, but 99 cents is a whole new ballgame.

Watch this video..

Whenever he is playing the 16th notes and he hits the snare with his left hand, this would be the crossover in Rock Band.
See how the snare is 'below' the Hi-Hat instead of directly to the right of it like in Rock Band? The way the Rock Band notes are set-up require you to Cross Over with your left hand to hit the snare.
Confused yet?

I never have to cross over... it may just be because my sticking is off, or I start on a different hand, but I have never had to crossover on that song

Yeah I had to learn that when the cover band I used to play with wanted to play that song earlier this year. I never really liked it until I started listening to it a lot to learn the drum part, and it turned out to be a hell of a lot of fun to play on the drums.
The good part about this is that it shouldn't give people too much trouble, since the kick drum basically just hits the 1,2,3,4 quarter notes throughout most of the song. That way people can just concentrate on their hands.

We are talking about Expert here. If you are NOT crossing over, I'm curious to see how you do this.. any vids?

If by "crossing over" you mean crossing my arms, then I don't cross over either. Granted, it took me time to pass this song and I can only 3 star it (around 66k), but I still enjoy playing it a lot.

So I spent most of the night practicing the song using crossovers and playing it the 'right way'. My score went down significantly (from +- 117000 to +-103000), but overall it was more satisfying.
I'm going to keep working on it.

Okay, I understand what you mean.
I've only played the song on Hard. It's not really my type of music but I love playing this song on drums.:D

No more so than any other song that uses the red pad as a hi-hat only in parts of the song instead of all of it.
Read that as: completely. :)
You do realize that this thread is OVER 1 year old right? Seriously, at that point, just create a new thread.

This is the most epic Necro I have ever seen. EVER. However the Necromancer must have used the search function so...
On topic: I never ever have heard this song on the radio.

That was a very helpful video! I learned the sticking for this song on the original drumkit. I have struggled with it ever since going to a Roland TD-12. Time to learn the "right" way!

Crossing over is hard with the way the pads are laid out. You don't have to literally do a cross over - on 16-beats, position your outside arm such it never gets in the way of your inside arm. Always start the meter with your inside arm.

Thinking about this some more, HMX should have set it up such that the hi hat on this song would be one of the 2 middle pads, with the snare alternating between the 2 outer pads. Not realistic "layout", but more realistic movements of the hands IMO.
I've seen videos on YouYube on people who do this without crossing over, basically doing a staccato 16th hi hats on one hand, while doing snare on the other hand. Could be done without much difficulty, but definitely takes away from the "playing drums fantasy" and I would not do this myself.

Wait... You could play this crossing over? How? Non-real-life-drummer here, so I have no idea how you would do that. I've just been playing it like RLLRLLRLLRLLRLRLRetc.

Thats how I see it done in videos, but crossing over is the way you would do it in real life. Sucks, but more natural once you find your way to position your arms such that they dont get in the way of each other.

But... how? I'm trying to think about it like that, but it doesn't make sense to me. Would you be keeping a consistent RLRL natural sticking pattern going on by crossing over?

The Blue/Yellow part in the intro that Ragin posted? You wouldn't be crossing over playing that on an acoustic kit. You stick it exactly the way Ragin said.

Right-o. RLRL all the way.
I've tried it once this morning after having slept on it and yes, it can work. You have to tuck in your R when your L crosses over. My sticks still hit each other occasionally, but a lot less vs yesterday.
The easiest way to do it is the way you would do it with real drums - RLRL unless it is impossible to do otherwise.

i'm kinda leery about buying this song on Wii. I use the GH drums and hitting the snare on the Yellow Cymbal would feel weird. I love this song though.
