PS3 Crashes When Downloading Patch 1.02

I tried to launch Rock Band 2 today on my PS3 and it told me that patch 1.02 was out and that it would have to update, as expected. I hit okay, and it said please wait for a few seconds, then the console beeped and restarted. I tried again a few times and this is consistently happening every time I try to download the patch.

Has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone have any suggestions for how to fix it?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just tried again (for like the seventh time) and it worked fine. As is often the case, that definition of insanity about doing the same thing expecting different results fails to apply to electronics.

So if this happens to anyone else, just wait a bit and try again.

i was having the same problem too. but then i pressed cancel and the game loaded, it signed me out but once i signed back in it said i had to up date still, so i pressed ok and it worked!
so just cancel the update then sign back in, then update.

Same thing happened to me. It installs, but then my microphone won't work, and the song list is all screwed up. I've tried reinstalling it about 5 times so far, but it hasnt worked, and I dont have the patience to keep doing it right now.

I get the prompt for the update, select "x", get a message that says, "Please Wait,"... and then I get a 3 beep restart.

Weird. Not trying to pour salt in open wounds, but it worked for me on the first try (about 7:30 EST).

What worked for me the first time I tried it (albeit the 6th attempt at getting the patch) was waiting for the introductory video (Cheap Trick) to stop playing and the menu music to load.

Just another option.

This also happened to me just now trying to update RB2.. I did it when i was signed in and not signed in 3 beeps and it restarts ps3. gonna try the cancel method now see if that works..

Edit: The cancel and sign in while ingame method works now downloading 27mb..

took 5 tries here. on the 4th crash, the system didn't even reboot, and the power button wouldn't respond. I had to kill the power supply.

maybe it needs to load some of the game first like other games? (I'm pretty sure some other games I have show the first couple company logos before saying there is an update..rock band didn't. Would explain how the cancel and then login in-game would work

Another thing that works is to delete the original RB 1.01 update/patch (not your save file).
