~Warning - this might result in spoilers!~
Ok, so we've had threads for best and worst bad guys, and I'm guessing there's one around for the OMGKoolist hero, but what about the non-characters in the games? What's your favourite twist in any video game? The one part of the game that leaves you speechless in shock the first time you ever come across it....
For me, it's got to be KOTOR, when you suddenly discover who you really are. You spend the whole game chasing around the galaxy behind Malek and Revan, only to discover that.... (spoilered below, in case you've not played it, but it's in black....)
You are Darth Revan!
I really was shocked when I first found that out, I really wasn't expecting it, and it made the whole story that much more intense!

#1) When we find out that Bruce Willis has been a ghost the entire movie.
#2) When the gal leaves the village of 1860, and it's really 2005.
(What? We aren't talking about M. Night Shama-llama-ding-dong movies?)

Me too. It means, out of eight, then seven, then six, then five, then four, then three, then two castles, I walked all the way to the ONE castle that is not only guarded by Bowser, but doesn't even have the ****ing princess in it. -_-

What ticked me off even more was when you had to play Ghosts 'n' Goblins all over again because your first go was apparently a hallucination. The first time that happened to me I just thought this:

Samus = Girl (I actually learned this when I first played SSBM, always playing as "the astronaut", and a friend of mine asked why I always said "he".)

Samus being a girl isn't a twist. That's just you not knowing something that's generally common knowledge. Before I ever played a Halo game, I thought Master Chief was the alien thing that turned out to be the Arbiter.
Biggest twist for me was Shephard killing Roach and Ghost in Modern Warfare 2. I knew he couldn't be trusted, but I never thought he would go that far.

No, that is actually a twist, and a large one at that.

My favorite twist so far this gen is *UNCHARTED 2 SPOILERS* Harry Flynn betraying you in the beginning of Uncharted 2.

The end of MGS2 comes to mind, but I'm not sure if it's my favorite twist or my least favorite.

If you hate being confused by that ending, I'd advise you not to get into Assassin's Creed...

KOTOR most immediately comes to mind.
Metal Gear Solid 3 had a fantastic one, involving The Boss.
Also, Bioshock.

Assassin's Creed lets you know pretty early that it's going to get weird. MGS had...Master Miller. Then the sequel was pretty normal up until the last hour or so, when you find out that the mission isn't real, your wife isn't real, Campbell isn't real in this one, something about the Russian woman and her baby, the army of RAYS, dead Philosophers, Fission Mailed, Solidus is the presidenaaaAAAAGGGH
Oh, yeah. Ummm...*spoilers.*

That confused the hell out of me the first time I played. Honestly, more of it was real than you think. Rose was real, and was replaced near the last hour of the game. Really, the only things that weren't real were Foxhound, Cambell, and the mission objective.

The MW2 one listed earlier was good, also *InFAMOUS spoilerz* Cole goes around hunting the guy in the white suit only to find out he is you and traveled back in time to help you get ready for the beast.

I'm going with the first Metal Gear Soli. Don't want to post spilers so I'll end it at that.

Final Fantasy Tactics (the original, not that GBA crap) was full of them.
Deus Ex: The Conspiracy also had tons of great twists.
FFVII's was fairly shocking for me when I played it for the first time as well. Not the events of the end of the first disc mind you, moreso the events at the beginning of disc 2.
*Bioshock Spoilers*
I knew Atlas couldn't be all he was cracked up to be in Bioshock, so him being Fontaine wasn't that surprising. But the encounter with Andrew Ryan was still a surprise in that I didn't think the main character was just a puppet for Fontaine and had a fabricated life up until the plane crash.

MW2 when Shepeard killed Ghost and Roach.

Just because the first letter of every level in the game spells Nicole is dead and that her possessed corpse killed you doesnt mean that.

You're not a big fan of Metroid, then. It was a huge plot twist in the original Metroid at the end of the game, if I remember correctly. Just because everyone knows it now, doesn't mean it's not a plot twist...
How about in GTA: Vice City when Lance turns on you. I mean, sure he was kind of shady, but after awhile you got to kind of trust him. ...Then BAM he turns on you. Then you end up at exactly where you were at the beginning of the game... only much richer and another mansion.

I nearly peed myself when I realized that it said that. They did the same thing with Extraction too but it wasn't nearly as good.

Ugh, Extraction.
That game was a pain in the ass for me, and was too long for a light gun game.
I dont even know how many times i yelled at my 5 year old brother "SHOOT THIER ARMS AND LEGS! THE ARMS NOT THE HEAD THAT JUST PISSES IT OFF!!"

Well yeah it was a plot twist in the first game, but he was talking about finding out while playing Super Smash Bros.
Another big twist is in Lost Odyssey. If you like RPGs of any kind I suggest you play it. It has become my new favorite. It came out two years ago but I just now played it. When you find out your daughter is still alive and the two kids you ran into are Kaim's grandkids, it's pretty OMG for a while.

Shadow of the Colossus. Far and away.
This. You get screwed over (hard). Not to mention, you feel bad for killing 12 Colossi. (I know there are 16, but a few of them had it coming.)
The MGS2 one I had been told about, so while it was confusing, I had heard so much about it that, well, it was spoiled.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Silent Hill 2, it is still one of my favorite twists in video games around.
It turns out that the main character James actually killed his wife.
That **** blew my mind the first time I saw it!
Also the Bioshock fiasco was pretty good too.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn:
Soren is essentially the true heir to Daein and almost Goldoa
Sure, post credits (Plus if you look at his maternal grandfather, it explains why he can be a bit indifferent), but damn.

Well it depends on which ending you got. There were, I believe, three wholly different endings depending on your actions throughout the game.

When "Cpt. Price" appeared on screen, I literally yelled

One of my favorite video game twists is in Jak 3, where *SPOILER* Jak finds out that Damas is his father, and the kid from Jak 2 was actually Jak himself.*SPOILER*
Another one is in Uncharted 2 where *SPOILER*Flynn betrays you, and where the scary monsters appear at the climax of the game.*SPOILER*

Regardless, the twist was still the same, it was part of the actual game not any of the endings.

Oh yeah. It's been too long since I played that game...
And I just want to reiterate Shadow of the Colossus. It's really one of the only games where the ENTIRE premise of the game was yanked out from under you.

Crackdown's plot twist felt like one of those things that the editors had to throw in something at the end to make sure it gets a proper sequel. It's cliche I admit, but hey, sequel.

My favorite plot twist of all time is in Metroid Fusion.
*Spoiler*
You think that Metroids have been extinct ever since the events of Super Metroid, but then you stumble upon a Federation Metroid lab in the B.S.L Station (The Federation are the people that told you to exterminate all of them in Metroid II). And after that, you find out the federation wants samples of the X. And you find out who the computer is, and it just leads to a bunch of ZOMG moments.*Spoiler*
