15. The Everlasting Gaze
"We all want to hold in the everlasting gaze; enchanted in the rapture of his sentimental sway."
This is probably the "hardest" song on my list. This song is loud and angry and in your face from beginning to end, and even though I am much more fond of softer music, this song just nails it. Billy Corgan really owns this song and does the words justice. My favorite part is when we goes into his little a cappela part in the middle of the song and ends it by screaming the last sentence right before the guitars roar back in.

14. Stand Inside Your Love
"But for the last time, you're everything that I want and ask for. You're all that I'd dreamed. Who wouldn't be the one you love? Who wouldn't stand inside your love?"
I don't really have anything particularly special to say about this song other than the fact that's it's just really good. It 's driving tempo from beginning to end really makes it captivating and the lyrics are meaningful.

13. Farewell and Goodnight
"Goodnight, to every little hour that you sleep tight. May it hold you through the winter of a long night and keep you from the loneliness of yourself."
This is probably my favorite "lullaby" or all time. Nothing is more relaxing than this song, from the soft drums and guitars to the lovely piano, this song is just so relaxing. Not only that, but each band member takes a turn singing. D'Arcy Wretzky, although she only has two lines, sounds absolutely beautiful singing here.

12. Muzzle
"And the world is drawn into your hands. And the world is etched upon your heart. And the world so hard to understand is the world you can't live without."
Another "hard" song, but not "angry" like :the Everlasting Gaze." This song is just very upbeat and uptempo and Billy Corgan sounds great. Not to mention, the drumming is fantastic.

11. Perfect
"We are reasons so unreal. We can't help but feel that something has been lost. But please, you know you're just like me. Next time I promise we'll be perfect."
To me, this is such a bittersweet song. The lyrics are both sad but optimistic, and the background instrumentation just sounds "feel good" to me. Overall it's just an excellent listen no matter what mood you're in.

10. The Last Song
"This is the last song. Could you find away across me? To forgive and forget me, to appease and relent me, to deceive and detect me, to understand and release me."
I don't have much of anything to say about this song except I loved it the first time I heard the opening line and I continue to love it to this day.

9. Dreaming
"I sit by and watch the river flow. I sit by and watch the traffic go. Imagine something of your very own; something you can have and hold. I'd build a road in gold just to have some dreaming."
D'Arcy Wretzky gets the lead vocals here, and once again she nails it (even though Bill Corgan does end up singing a verse or two, it's not as good as the Wretzky parts.) This is actually a cover of a Blondie song, but I prefer this version. This version is far more relaxed and "dreamlike" with it's slower pace and electronic instrumentation. For whatever reason, D'Arcy's voice once again puts me in a sort of relaxation trance that I can neither explain, nor complain.

8. Believe
"There's a life I hide, well, I tried to disguise and I can take you a million miles away. I want to believe in you and I heard you. Your song, you sing, a truth is no other. I want to believe in you, dear."
This is the first song sung by guitarist James Iha on my list, but *SPOILER ALERT* it certainly isn't the last. This song is just beautiful from beginning to end. Iha's voice is so soft and honest, and the simplicity of the guitar and strings make this one a gem. Mmmm strings...

7. 1979
"No apologies ever need be made I know you better than you fake it to see that we don't even care to shake these zipper blues, and we don't know just where our bones will rest. To dust, I guess."
This is the song that cause me to become obsessed with the Smashing Pumpkins in the first place, and it still remains one of my favorites to this day. There's nothing really wrong with this song. It's catchy, fast paced, and just all together a great song. You've probably heard this one if you grew up in the 90's like me even if you don't recognize the title.

6. Mayonnaise
"We'll try and ease the pain. Somehow we'll feel the same. Well, no one knows where our secrets go."
I love how this song begins and ends with a simple little guitar melody that serve as bookends for an amazing song in between. Like most Pumpkins songs, there's not much real uniqueness between songs, but this one sure is spectacular.

5. Galapagos
"I won't deny the pain. I won't deny the change. And should I fall from grace here with you, will you leave me, too?"
Another real soft and sincere song that just puts me to sleep. Not a lot of bells or whistles, just pure goodness.

4. Spaceboy
"I want to go home."
Written about Corgan's handicapped brother, you can just feel the emotion in Corgan's voice as this song goes on. The background instrumentation carries this song despite its' simplicity, and the repetition of the phrases "I want to go home," and "we won't belong" just break your heart. Corgan owns this one.

3. ...Said Sadly
"Lover, when will you? I'm so afraid that no one cares. Lover, can't find you. And no one knows what brings us here,"
More James Iha. This song is just so soft and sincere. The lyrics are meaningful, and the back and forth lyrics between James Iha and Nina Gordan is really believable.

2. Tonight, Tonight
"Believe, believe in me; believe. Believe that life can change; that you're not stuck in vain. We’re not the same, we're different tonight."
This song captivated me from the first time I heard it, and still does every time I hear it to this day. I love the lyrics, and Billy Corgan's voice just really sounds great here; both soft and wailing. The strings really sound spectacular here and don't overpower the song at all. Even at the end of the song when the string crescendos towards the climax, the rest of the song drives as well and Corgan's vocals just get stronger. Overall I think this song is just so passionate and alive.

1. The Boy
"Ooh, and every time that I'm with you, I'm alive. Ooh, and every time I think of you, there's a light...and I felt it, too. In my heart is a spring, is a well, if you need, if you drink, if you heal then Im leaving every little part of me as a part of you."
I never thought I'd find a Smashing Pumpkins song that I would like better than "Tonight, Tonight" (in fact for a while I never thought I'd find ANY song that I would like better than it) but then I discovered "The Boy" and not only is it my favorite Smashing Pumpkins song, but it is one of my favorite songs of all time. In fact, I believe as of now it hold the record of the top played song on my iPod. I owe this record to the fact that it comforts me a lot and I find myself falling asleep to this one song on repeat at night over and over. What's so great about it? First of all it's very simple. The basic drum beat and tambourine keep the pace and the guitar just sounds great. Iha's voice is as soft and sweet as ever and the lyrics are so simple, relate-able, sincere, and honest it's hard not to fall in love with it. Iha describes what it's like to be in love, and he does so without resorting to using confusing or personal metaphors. I think even if you haven't been in love, you can understand how it feels just by reading the words alone (and if that doesn't convince you, the sincerity in Iha's voice surely will.) If you have, this song will reaffirm what it's like. Maybe I'm overstating this, and maybe I'm wrong. But to me, this song is just so right. It's absolutely perfect.

major props on "said sadly", "believe", and "muzzle".
they're all good tunes, but those three would definitely be in my top 10.

unfortunately, you totally skipped my absolute favorite, "behold! the nightmare".

So long as Mayonnaise is on it, it's a pretty solid list. My absolute favorite Pumpkins tune.

Cool, I like how unpredictable your list is, and the many overlooked Iha songs. "The Boy" is definitely Iha's best, I'd say. "Go" is another favorite of mine. Also a big fan of "Dreaming".
