PS3 Freezing

60GB US PS3.

Had this a couple times this evening already, both times on the loading screen, the game appears to freeze and not progress onto the game screen.

On both occasions, I've powered down the PS3, brought it back up again and it works fine! Just wondered if anybody else had theirs freeze during the loading screen?

I am also having this exact same issue on the 80GB PS3, Except mine locks up everytime you play a few songs.... getting very annoying for a $160 dollar game.

I rented the game from Blockbuster and had the exact same issue.

Any help with this would be great.

Ive got the 60gb ps3 and ive noticed it lately as well, today has been the worst. It first started when I got some new songs, like Interstate Love Song would take 4 to 5 min to load if at all. Then it just started locking up the system altogether. and today I get the same thing, mainly on dlc but when I went online to play it was all fine until they went to select the song and my screen just stays at the song selection screen and locks up my system and have to use the back power button to turn off the system. ITs getting very annoying and problematic.

I am having this issue as well, 60GB US PS3. The game never freezes during a song, only on loading screens or in the menus. It's fairly reproducible when I'm trying to customize a character. Particularly when selecting "Physique", I've never been able to change those because of this freezing issue.

This is very disappointing to see this type of problem with the game when it costs so much money.

Well now mine started freezing during a song. I deleted all the content and redownloaded the patch and it still freezes. Im afraid to delete my game save because you cant back it up....grrr.... Im getting very upset. I paid $180 for a game i can barely play.

I have a 40GB PS3 and mine freezes occasionally in menus and while loading songs. Usually when it freezes while loading a song, the load times for prior songs have been unusually long with more disc seeking noises than normal.

I haven't yet carefully troubleshot the issue, but I have a theory about the cause. I keep my PS3 on its side, and what I think happens is that over time the disc slips slightly off-center on the spindle, causing read errors. These errors eventually become so bad that the game crashes. I'm led to believe this by the fact that the problem is fixed by ejecting and reinserting the disc, and becomes more likely to occur the longer the disc has been in the drive.

I'd be curious to know if all of the people having problems have their PS3 mounted on its side or if it's laying flat.

60 GB PS3 (upgraded to 320 GB), no lockups in RB ever and I play a lot for sometimes 4+ hours straight and have all the DLC.

I have had this issue too. My 60GB freezes while loading songs and I have to turn it off, especially if I have been playing for a good amount of time. PS3 is laying flat and it's getting really annoying.

Only one lockup after a couple of hours play. It was tucked back into the entertainment center and the fans were going full-tilt. I just think it got hot.

Reboot and all is well.

Today I played vocals from 5PM to 9PM. No problems at all except I had to reset the mic after it (pitch meter) started freaking out.

I've logged many hours on this game. I can forgive one lockup.

Mines laying flat and is out in the open so heat is not an issue. And it freezes after only about 5 min of playing so that eliminates that as well. Its annoying and really starting to make me hate a good game.

I have the 80GB PS3...
If I actually allow RB to connect to the playstation network and choose band world tour / solo play the game locks up the ps3 at the character selection screen...
If I do online play I can do only one song after the song it goes to a loading screen and freezes there...

Any suggestions?

And yes my network connection works for every other game including GH3 and doing DLC purchases...

shrug no clue what kind of problem you guys are having. I have a 60GB PS3 that I've had for almost a year, I've played RB both online and offline for hours on end ever since I bought it on the launch date and when online I've played both through wireless lan and ethernet. I have all the DLC as well. It's never locked up... not once... ever...

You guys cleared the dust out of the fan vents? That's the one thing I'm thinking of that could be causing an overheat issue if your PS3 is out in the open.

I also have the 60GB version, and have noticed some lagging on DLC. The song will start, hang....start up...sometimes hang in the middle of a song.

mine did this once. i have a 60gig ps3. i pressed the ps button the controller, quit the game, restarted it and it hasn't happened since.

I have a US 80GB ps3 and I've had it freeze 2 times so far. Once was during the loading screen, and the other was today when it froze right after the loading in an online quickplay where it shows the players. I was able to reboot using the main power button (the heat sensitive one, not the switch on the back)

my ps3 is on it's side, and I was able to still access the PS menu with the PS button both times (didn't lock up the ps3, just the game crashed)

Glad I found this thread. My 60 gig is also locking up, but not just on rock band. It started locking up on Call of Duty4 also.

It's happeneing to me too (80G now 200G). It was fine two weeks ago and now all of a sudden it can take 5 minutes to load a song. I deleted the game (had to download all the songs again) and it was fine for a while now it's doing it again however the waits aren't as long. It seems like a disk fragmentation problem. I have been downloading and removing a lot of large demos lately. :confused:

I'm having a problem with rock band but only after playing two download content songs in a row. Any of them too. If i play dlc song then a normal song then another dlc song no issue. Any ideas?

I've got the 80 gig and had no problems....until downloading the system upgrade so that we could download more songs. Now I can load a band, but the ps3 freezes before we can continue tour. Same thing happens in solo mode. I've tried shutting it down a few times without success.

Any one else have this problem?

I have been having the freezing issues for the past two weeks or so when playing Rock Band. It's especially annoying because it freezes on the loading screen between multi-song sets.

I have no downloaded content, and I have the latest Rock Band and PS3 updates. I'm really hoping someone can offer a solution soon, because the game becomes less and less fun each time this happens!

Does the Rock Band staff browse these forums?

I just loaded PS3 2.42. Then Rock Band required me to also load an update for it. Once these updates were completed, I started having lock up problems just like the ones described in this thread. I sent emails off to PS3 and EA Rock Band support. So far the only response I got was that I needed to search different message boards. Man...I was pissed when I got that type of response.

...when I told the support representative of my issue on the phone he told me that he would send another game disc. He basically said that if this didn't work I should talk to Sony. I'm not sure if this helps anyone else, but I'll let you know the results when I receive mine.

I love ps3 way more then any other system but the 80gb ps3 is crap. I got one of the first ones made and it had so many bugs and update issues. im going to gamestop to get repaired soon. Most 80gb ps3 have a lot of tech issues and bugs.

Thought it was just an ocasional hicup but now tha i see the forum it seems like other people is having the same issue. I demand a official statement by HMX about this as soon as possible!

I have been having several problems with my 80Gb PS3

Mostly on my Master account that varies on its times to freeze mostly it happens after playing a song or two offline and online it doesnt really matter.

But then... I move to a sub account and it works fine? no freezes not even any lag can anyone tell me why this happens?

I have the 80gb PS3 and tonight started having the freezing problem, it'll be as we're playing a song, it'll just freeze completely and I get the 3 beep PS3 reboot. Anyone have any answers as to why this happens?

To clarify, when it freezes, the song will skip and repeat a few seconds of the song that was playing as it froze for eternity (or until I press my finger onto the power button under the disc slot). It just happened suddenly and now happens every single time we get a minute or so into any song.

And now the game won't even load. Freezes the PS3 dead with solid blue and green lights after the playstation 3 logo plays after selecting it from the XMB. This is absolutely infuriating.

I am all of a sudden having the freezing issue as well. I have had RB1 since release day as well as RB2 and never had a single problem with either untill last night after I downloaded the Steve Miller Band DLC, now I am lucky if I can even get past the loading screen and even if I do actually get to play a song, it will freeze up at the end of the song when it shows me my score. Checked the disc, perfectly clean. Left playstation unplugged for about an hour, still froze up. Only thing I can think of is bad DLC?

RB has been freezing, firstly when I select a song, and then on the loading screen before I play the song, since a few days ago. I even vacuumed out the vents on my PS3 for dust and it still does it. So,so annoying - I have had to turn it off at least four times. There are no signs of any scratch marks on the disc, and I have been borrowing it from a friend since about the start of the week (who, as far as I know, has had no problems). I have also been playing Fifa 09, which will sometimes slow down, but only after I've been playing RB for a bit..?!

Any developments on this? Really is annoying. Please, HMX, you must read these forums... what can you/I do?

If your PS3 is freezing during RB2, then the issue is most likely with your PS3. My RB1 started to freeze up frequently last year, I sent my PS3 in, and the game has worked flawlessly ever since I got it back. I even had two RB1 discs at the time to test with the PS3, and they were both having the same frequent-freezing problem.

So I think if Rock Band is starting to freeze a lot for you, it's probably a sign that your PS3 disc reader is dying out, unfortunately.

Rockband 2 is freezing on me too! There is nothing we can do??? Sony said ask EA. And EA said they would send a new disc but that won't help because Guitar Hero World Tour does the same thing. I believe if you update the PS3 to 2.80 you will get the same errors. Help! Somebody! NOW

i have Rock Band 2 on ps3, but more GB. It sends me back to the PS3 menu when i click browse!
