do you listen to music while playing video games (beside Rock Band) and if so, what kind?

when playing shooting games I listen to prog and during adventure games southern rock/swamp rock.

It depends on the game, sometimes I compile a setlist, sometimes I don't.

There was one time I played Oblivion for like 6 hours straight with Earth's The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull on looping repeat. It was interesting!

I always play video games (besides RB/GH) with my iPod on shuffle.

With that being said, my iPod mostly consists of metal and hard rock.

I listen to Wu-Tang while playing skate, and usually something very calm during MW2 sessions to keep the blood pressure low

I don't actually listen to any music while I'm playing most video games, with the exception of some MMOs, in which case I usually listened to a combination of New Wave, metal, and punk.

I don't listen to music while playing video games. I find it too distracting.

Same. Plus i couldn't imagine trying to play L4D2 without being able to hear the witches, or the suspenseful music queuing up the Tank.

I'll do it occasionally but I've stopped doing it because I can't concentrate on the game.

I like my TV and my music as loud as I can get them. So, I can never hear music unless I mute the TV, which is liek, so not happening.

Not to mention it may be hard to hear your teammates cry for help.

i use it for a lot of games, esp. ones i've beaten and no longer need to listen for stuff to know what to do, mostly because i've always listened to music during older games where that wasn't a big deal, but also because my house has a loft for the upstairs, where i am, and i have to use headphones in order to hear my tv, so instead i just play some music

Some games have awesome enough sound tracks so that you don't need to listen to music while playing.

Im not really into shooter games but I do play them once and a while, but anyway when I play Halo I would grab an Ipod and play Slayer songs online, but when I play Racing games like Burnout, Need for Speed, Forza Motorsports, or any other racing game I would play any kind of Metal.

Racing games, and a few in the fighter genre (ones where a sound queue isn't going to alert you to some crazy special attack about to be performed)

I typically play music while playing games and I'm not exactly picky with game music.(Unless it's a zombie related game, then I play Scream Bloody Gore). Lately though I've playing Dragon Age and digging the atmosphere so I hardly ever listen to music while playing it(which is quite a bit).

Nope. Too distracting, and it can be deadly to be playing something louder then, say, the scare chord.

The only games I really play with music on is games like GTA where I'm just goofing around not doing anything important.

Depends on the game. I hate having music on while playing an RPG or so, but with a sport game I welcome music.

I pretty much only play L4D when I play video games and music would be very inappropriate during that game.

Pretty much only while playing Advance Wars, which isn't reaction-dependent, so my focus doesn't have to be wholly on the game. I listen to whatever I'm feeling at the moment, from Death to Meat Loaf.

I've tried to play MW2 with music, but it's too distracting.

I've tried with MW1 not having any sound takes away from the game.

I usually play Warcraft 3 with music, namely DotA. I also like listening to music while playing WoW but, again, it takes away from the game.

I have a wide variety of studd on my iPod, thus I play with It on Shuffle. I think its funnyhow sometimes the best songs come on at the best possible time (i.e. Eye Of The Tiger after losing about 50 times, or Hit With Your Best Shot during a shooting game).

Woah, I once played Oblivion for at least 6 hours straight with Pink Floyd's "The Great Gig In The Sky" on looping repeat. Everytime I listen to the song I think of Oblivion, and vise-versa!

What a coincidence :)

I play stuff on the 360 with music from my computer unless it's Dead Space or Batman, but on the computer I'll mute the music unless I'm playing TF2.

i had music going in the background today while playing Command and Conquer: Generals Zero Hour, twas great, nothing like blasting Star One or Angel Witch while rolling tanks into a village, or Jackson Browne and the Mountain Goats while building

Sometimes i'll listen to whatever new cd i've just purchased on my xbox while playing mw2..so lately it's been a mix of Rush, Queens of the Stone Age and Pearl Jam...
but I don't play it too loud, listening to footsteps and cracking knees helps me find out where the nearest enemy is

When I'm bored of the SSB(M/B) soundtrack I'll often play it to jazz and its various Sub Genres.

I'm still loving the MW2 soundtrack so I can't really do that yet.

I prefer to listen to the actual sounds and music of the game, unless it's something like Trials HD.
