My son and I are newbies, so forgive me if this seems an ignorant question. Why can't we see all the songs that are available? For example, my son played to the smashing pumpkis "cherub rock" last night online, but I don't see it anywhere in any of my lists...
I think it has to do with locked vs. unlocked songs, but shouldn't I be able to practice to any song that is included?
Thanks!

basically you have to unlock each song (in sets of five - i think?) by playing through the solo tour. each time you reach a new venue it unlocks the five songs for that level. you dont have to pass it to have it playable in quick play, but you cant get to the next venue without passing the five songs.
the other way to play all the songs at anytime if you havent passed all the songs is to use the cheat code. just know that the codes for xbox and ps3 are different.
the easiest thing to do is play through everything on medium.

From what i've seen I think that if your playing online the person(s) youre with share songlists. so if your laying a song that u dont have online that means its the others persons. And in order to get more songs you have to beat all the songs on medium, hard, or expert.

You need to unlock them. When playing online, they unlock the songs for you because the other players might get frustrated with your lack of songs. I would suggest playing through the Medium Solo Tour for each instrument to unlock all of the main songs, as well as improve your skills.

Thanks all for the reponses and helping out some newbies. I was able to unlock the songs so I can get some practive in. :)
I've been playing drums since I was a kid - this is definitely a different way of looking at playing the drums since all I've ever done is play by ear! I'm looking forward to conquering it!
Thanks again!

Couple tips to unlocking songs fast from my experience.
Play through a solo game to get everything. If you've got more than 1 person than actualy playing "hot seat" style, each taking a song then passing back is actually quite fun.
Easy doesn't unlock all the songs, however it is REALLY easy if you've got any skill with the givent instrument so you can get most of the songs very fast that way, however you'll have to do them all again on medium to get the rest... not that it's not fun, just if speed is your thing.
Singing on medium is probably the fastest way to get everything unlocked. I'm well known as one of the worst singers... ever... but I can easily 5 star most songs on medium, even if I've never heard them before. Just remember it's pitch, not the words that matter. Also you don't need to be perfect, just not fail and you'll unlock more. Obvisouly if you're more into drums or guitar that that will be more fun, but again, if speed is your thing, you won't have to do many songs over if you sing...
Downloaded songs are always available, you don't need to unlock them, so don't be affraid that you won't be able to play if you see something fun on the marketplace.
One interesting quirk I've noticed solo and multiplayer when you're not playing a tour is that you need to be logged into your gamer ID with an instrument that is going to be used to play all your unlocked songs. For example. if I start up the console with my controller, that logs in the controller to my ID. If I then put down the controller and pickup the guitar and go to play a solo song (not a solo tour, where you chose your character) only the starter songs are available. I have to start a solo tour, to get it to log the guitar onto my ID (kicking the controller/singer off of it) then back up and go back to the song I want... a little anoying especialy if you like to play everything like I do, but more something to be aware of than a real problem.
Hope that helps you get your rock on a little sooner.
