I actually find Queens of the Stone Age's "Go With the Flow" very meaningful. The phrase "I want something good to die for to make it beautiful to live" caught me one day and had a strange impact on what the meaning of life meant to me. It always brings me into deep thought and I believe it's a brilliant statement.

I find a lot of meaning in Sparks' songs. One of my favorites from them is probably "Mickey Mouse" - the song seems really nonsensical and kind of silly on a superficial level, but it's a whole lot deeper than that. Mickey nonchalantly tells Minnie, his wife, to not worry about life and be happy because they are rich, have lots of friends, tons of parties, and should theoretically be content with everything they have. Minnie, however, is incredibly unhappy and unsatisfied despite all of this. Mickey, who has absolutely no idea how to relate to Minnie, offhandedly tells Minnie to buy a pet to make her happier.
I think this song says a lot about the nature of humanity and the nature of relationships, in particular. I feel Sparks are trying to say that most relationships are shallow and exist solely because the two people feel like they can't do any better, in addition to likening a relationship like this to a meaningless trap.

Oh, and Donovan's "There Is A Mountain". I totally just felt like I discovered the meaning of life when it came on the radio the other day. Especially when he delivered the "the caterpillar sheds his skin to find the butterfly within" line.

It is, sadly. The song almost brought me to tears the first time I realized what Sparks were saying. :(

This one is almost certain to open the floodgates as soon as the chorus kicks in.

This. a hundred times this.

I have never been so emotionally moved by a song. Its something I could easily relate to, due to some of the recent events in my life. "...To die by your side is such a heavenly way to die; To die by your side, the pleasure- the privilege is mine..." Just incredible. Morrisseys poetic lyrics just make it an absolute timeless classic.

Dance Music - The Mountain Goats
Relate to it on a deep level, as well as the entire theme behind The Sunset Tree.

Matthew 25:21 - The Mountain Goats
Reminds me of the way my grandmother died, probably the most moving song I've ever heard to this day.

This Year - The Mountain Goats
Pretty much my theme song for 2009, and any rough time in my life. It's hopeful and shows that you can be at the bottom, but still make it through.

Legendary - Lou Barlow
I had a close friend that committed suicide a few years ago, this song pretty much explains everything that I went through. "I know in time, I will believe, That I loved you" in particular is a line that I relate to.

The Boxer - Simon & Garfunkel
Absolutely love the lyrics, the story, everything about it, my favorite of theirs.

Duncan - Paul Simon
The first song of Simon's solo outfit that I ever heard. It gripped me immediately, and I can relate to the story.

You Know You're Right (Solo Acoustic) - Nirvana
My favorite version of the song, the lyrics are different from the more popular version that was released as a single, and I like them a lot better.

Debriefing - Vic Chesnutt
Incredibly powerful lyrics, reminds me of my grandmother once again.

A Little Lost - Arthur Russell
Possibly my favorite song of his, almost my theme song.

I Let Love In - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Probably the best lyrics about love I've ever heard. "Despair and Deception, Love's ugly little twins".

This Is How We Walk on the Moon - Arthur Russell
Incredibly inspirational.

The Beatles - For No One
The Beatles - A Day In A Life
Current 93 - They Return To Their Earth
Death In June - Fall Apart
Sol Invictus - Old London Weeps

All of those songs have been very important to me at one point of my life and every time move me to tears for various different reasons.

Atari Teenage Riot - Get Up While You Can
(This song practically saved my life, or actually, the whole Future Of War album. I never forget the rush i got from hearing that song the first time, how it in only 2-3 minutes saved me from a mental breakdown i was heading into.)

Cradle Of Filth - Cthulhu Dawn
(Got me into metal, and metal pretty much dominated my taste of music for three years, so personally i consider it a meaningful song.)

The line "Rather Be Dead Than Cool" from Nirvana's Stay Away is pretty much my motto.

Trivium's "and Sadness will Sear" has a very positive message in it and is very sad if you know its topic. The song is about a kid who was beaten and killed just because he was gay. The people who found the kid thought he was a scarecrow at first because he was so mangled and beaten. A very thought provoking song about respecting peoples sexuality even if you do not agree with the choice they made.

For me, it has to be Layla (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Th3ycKQV_4k) by Derek and the Dominoes. The lyrics ring true for me, especially now, and Clapton puts his heart into every single line. Then, there're the slide parts of Clapton and the late Duane Allman, which are some of the highest guitar parts I've ever heard. Not to mention, the second part is probably one of the most beautiful things in rock ever committed to tape.
