As soon as this past week, Godsmack (http://www.godsmack.com) has announced a new album for this year! There is no official date yet, just the "later this year" spiel. But, the site is boasting videos about the making of Saints and Sinners and promises a 2010 tour. I don't have the time to watch the videos as of now, so I'm not sure what they show. Hopefully they preview the new music. Go check it out and feel free to post your opinions, good or bad. Hopefully more good than bad, since I'm a huge Godsmack fan but I was a little let down by "IV".

The new single from that album Whiskey Hangover (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSPNbJS-ye4) is pretty good. I'll be looking forward to this for sure.

"Whiskey Hangover" is going to be on the new album? I didn't like that song that much and it has been out for a long time now, exceptionally long for a first single when the album isn't going to be released until mid/late 2010.
As for Saints & Sinners, I'd like to see Godsmack get away from their post-grunge sound like on IV and go back to the way they sounded from the debut to Faceless. I didn't dig IV that much minus a couple of cool songs like "Voodoo Too" and "Bleeding Me".

:D Right on, Mega-tallica! Ooh, "Whiskey Hangover", now that's classic Godsmack! Thanks for the link! 6-16 it says, I'd rely more on that than Wikipedia, no offense. It fits too, this means a Summer tour! Hmm, Mayhem or Godsmack; which would you see? Saw Godsmack during the "Awake" tour. ;)

The Mayhem lineup this year is is pretty poor compared to last year, so I think I'll have to go with Godsmack. I saw them at Cruefest 2 this past summer and they put on the best show that night, although, they didn't play songs I thought for sure they would like "Awake" and "Greed". As a matter of fact, they didn't play any songs off of Awake, so I was kind of disappointed, but they put on a great show nonetheless.

Yes, But what does AiC have to do with Godsmack?
Godsmack used to be an AIC cover band before they got big. Even their band name is named after an AIC song. People without brains think they are just a rip off of AIC which is not true and therefore they always compare them when their sound is completely different.
It's much like the comparison between Creed and Pearl Jam. An old argument is very old.

Okay guys, want to hear the first single? Check the audio player at www.godsmack.com (http://www.godsmack.com), they're playing "Cryin' Like a *****", the first single off the new album, "The Oracle". If you've heard "Whiskey Hangover", it's in the same vein musically, kinda a cross between the self-titled album and "IV". I personally like both and could see both coming to Rock Band when the album premieres May 4.

I thought the album was going to be called Saints And Sinners? I guess they changed it...
Just listened to the new song, it's kind of poppy like Whiskey Hangover, but still traditional Godsmack. Can't wait until May 4th now :D
Awesome, all my favorite albums coming out this year are going to be released around the same time. The Oracle is going to be released just 2 weeks after Sevendust's Cold Day Memory! Not to mention all the other albums I'm looking forward to.

Erna has also cited Layne Stayley as his biggest influence in singing.

I'm guessing "Sinners and Saints" is what they're calling their "making of" documentary. And count me in as an Alice in Chains fan. In fact, I'm going to see them locally in April! :D But it's true, some fans can get upset if they feel a band is ripping off their sound. I believe in the saying "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery".

The track listings for Godsmack's The Oracle have been released. Only 10 songs on the main release so I'm guessing some longer songs on this record.
1. Cryin' Like A B*tch
2. Saints And Sinners
3. War And Peace
4. Love-Hate-Sex-Pain
5. What If?
6. Devil's Swing
7. Good Day To Die
8. Forever Shamed
9. Shadow Of A Soul
10. The Oracle
Also note, "Whiskey Hangover" is now no longer going to be on the new record. Interesting...

Every time Godsmack releases an album or single, nu-metal takes two steps backwards. Seriously, the best that they could come up with is "Cryin' Like A *****"? Shameful.
Mega-Tallica
03-21-2010, 04:34 PM
I agree, "Cryin' Like A B*tch" is a weak track, but usually I never like Godsmack's singles. Hopefully, the better songs off this record will be the ones that aren't singles like off of IV.

I was referring to any and all Godsmack tracks. Their music amounts to nothing more than lyrical cluster****s on the level of Fred Durst.
Mega-Tallica
03-21-2010, 04:39 PM
Nah, I think Godsmack was better lyrical content than Limp Bizkit, I just think that their music is really starting to become repetitive.
TheCrimsonSaint
03-21-2010, 04:43 PM
"And I'd love to hang you
You're all the same to me
When you repeatedly
Take advantage of me
The only thought I get of you sickens me
Everybody knows you're fake
You're everything I ****ing hate"
Yeah, that's pretty pathetic.
Mega-Tallica
03-21-2010, 04:47 PM
Yeah, that's weak, but it's better than this:
"It's a ****ed up world, what a ****ed up place,
Everybody's judged by their ****ed up face,
****ed up dreams, ****ed up life,
****ed up kid, with a ****ed up knife,
****ed up moms, and ****ed up dads,
Thats a ****ed up cop, with a ****ed up badge,
****ed up job, with ****ed up pay,
****ed up boss, is a ****ed up day,
****ed up breast, ****ed up lies,
All my *****s, in the biggest, got the facs of life"

I always thought Mushroomhead's lyrics were above par for that nu-metal default, though for example.

I agree, Mushroomhead's lyrics are above average for nu-metal as well as the very underground and under-rated From Zero.

3 new songs just leaked; "Saints And Sinners", "Devil's Swing", and "The Oracle" instrumental. To lazy to post links, but they are all over youtube. Both "Saints And Sinners" and "Devil's Swing" got me real excited for this album and it seems Godsmack are back to their old ways as both these songs seem like they come right from the Awake era. The instrumental track however I thought it was considerably weak with boring riffs and generic Metallica-ish solos that just didn't cut. Doesn't even touch Vampires as far as Godsmack's best instrumental.
The other 3 songs that released early "What If", "Love-Hate-Sex-Pain", and "Cryin' Like A B*tch", out of the 3, What If is the most notable. Love Hate Sex pain has the feel like it'll be a single sometime in the near future, it's not bad and it has a nice guitar riff, just not feeling it as much as What If. And I did not like Cryin' Like A B*tch at all.

I have the whole album, as it leaked earlier this week and I got it. It's actually a pretty good album, above what I was expecting from Godsmack. And somebody mentioned From Zero..yea, I have their DEMO lol, from 1999. I'm good friends with their ex-manager they had while still a local band in Chicago. I helped promote From Zero back then, but of course, i don't even think they have a deal anymore, do they?

From what I know, From Zero broke up a few years ago.
A real shame, they were a great band.

Definitely up there in the 9's for me as well. The deluxe editon has two bonus tracks, one being the huge hit "Whiskey Hangover" and the other being "I Blame You". "I Blame You" is a great song and it probably should have been on the main release.
You know when an album is great when even the bonus tracks are good. The only weak track I felt was the instrumental, "The Oracle".

Funny, I got the album at Wal-Mart for $10. What's funny is when looking at the track listing on it... For the first song, it says "Cryin' Like A B**ch" but when he actually sings it on the album. He says the full word. Which is weird, considering I bought this from Wal-Mart and they have everything censored. No censoring here! :D

Please, take out Sully Erna from Godsmack and tell me they sound like AIC because they have almost no similarites. Erna is the only reason why people think they are a rip off of AIC when their music doesn't even sound remotely close to AIC's sound.

So you are saying, a band whose primary influences are Layne Staley, Jerry Cantrell and James Hetfield, don't sound like AIC and Metallica?? More recently they have made it a goal to distance themselves from the comparisons to aic, I guess that means they didn't sound like them in the first place. Please! The first 2 albums are rip offs of Dirt and metallicas black album.

No.
There is no such thing as being a "rip-off" as no two bands sound identical. Sully Erna does sound similar to Staley and Rombola solo's do sound similar to Hammett's, but Godsmack's overall music sounds nothing like Metallica or AIC. They are just influences, every band has influences.
