Deploy to save?

What does it mean when it says to "deploy to save" a player who has failed? How do you do this (specifically with the drum controller)?

deploy your overdrive when they fail to bring them back. you can only do this 2 times. if they fail again they are permanently gone. on the drums you have to wait until you have the chance to hit a fill.

When a member of the band fails out, other members can deploy their overdrive to bring them back into play. Guitar and Bassist lift their necks just like in GH, but drummers have to wait for a drumfill section to deploy their overdrive. Vocals deploy overdrive by singing in the freestyle sections.

Do you have to do anything in particular in the drum fill section to deploy my overdrive? Does the vocalist have to do anything special in the freestyle sections to deploy their overdrive?

Drummers just have to hit the fill section enough to get the green cymbal to appear and then hit that in order to activate overdrive. Vocalists can only activate overdrive when the yellow/gold "free style" phrases appear, at which point they just have to blow or make a noise to kick it in.
