Is the yellow played throughout this song to map to a closed hi-hat or the 1st tom?

uhhh...no that's the red.

They tend to map the same drum on two pads so that you'd still have to hit them with both arms. That's also how they chart flams.

It's a snare. It's just so that you use both hands so its more dramatic I believe.

It's a flam on the snare, as Cliphead said. Flams on the snare have historically always been authored as Red/Yellow. It's not "so it's more dramatic". :)

You can tell because you can not only hear it, but you can see the drummer hit the snare with both sticks.

I'm fairly certain there's no bass in that song at all.
