Seriously, for a band oriented games, i find it EXTREMELY difficult to find people with Mics. Its annoying to communicate with them, especially when you are playing songs that you arent so well at.

Anyone know why 75% of the population of 360 rock band have no mics? (rough estimates of course)

I would play with a mic but for some reason my headset doesn't want to work with my drum kit. It works with the guitar, and you can talk with the vocal mic, but I usually only play drums online.

i just dont like talking online any way..

not too mention nothing annoys me more than people talking during songs while i try and concentrate on the songs. so i dont want to be that guy.

when ever i am in charge.. i just pick random song. that way eventually every one will get songs they want or dont want.

Like me, a lot of people just opt not to talk or listen. It can get distracting and most people who do use their mics tend to be annoying. Not to say they are all like that, because I have run into generally fun people. But for every good person there's a guy showboating his "10 win streak" and after losing, immediately burst into a cussfest and "yeah right, whatever." Gets old. And if anyone has played Halo online before I'm sure their afraid of headsets, after the things they've probably had to hear.

Im gonna bump this thread from last night.

I understand not talking in the competitive aspects of RB, but in the Band plays?

I unplug my mic sometimes when im in Halo, but you know its kind of nice to communicate with your band members to know what they want.

I know that one of my buddies has not been able to figure out how to get the mic to work with the stratocaster. I'm using a les paul, so I can't help him debug it.

Anyone got YouTube videos with tutorials on how to set up mics with the bundled Rock Band instruments? Might help some people get connected.

Unless I'm playing with people I know, I don't bother with the headset. In my lengthy experience with XBox Live, I find that an overwhelming majority of players are not worth listening to. There are so many archetypes of players and not many of them are flattering. There's:

The greatest gamer in the world - Usually a teenager who invests far too much importance in their ability to play a certain game. Since their life doesn't extend much beyond school and their bedroom Halo experience, being really good at a game and letting you know how good they are is key in determining their self-worth and role in the universe. A few years later they'll find that they probably should spent more time studying when they're in their 20's and not qualified to work anywhere other than Home Depot.

Racists - I don't even need to go into this. I've been tossed out of public/ranked games because I'm not Race X and I've seen people booted out of games for not sounding like a white guy. I don't need it.

Tweens - They sound like little kids, they behave like little kids.

Stoner - He's drunk/high right now and for some reason thinks that you think that it's really cool. So he's going to tell you all about it.

Guy who doesn't shut his mic off - Doesn't talk to anyone in the game. The mic is on and you hear him talk to whoever is next to him. You hear every sordid detail of his life. You hear him talk to someone on the phone. You hear him argue with his siblings and parents. You hear him tell his friend to pack another bowl.

Singers and whistlers - The only thing worse is the guy who sets his headset down next to the speakers so you can listen to whatever music he's playing. The only thing worse than that is the guy who puts his phone next to the mic and keeps setting off the ringtone.

Verbal diarrhea - I once played a Team Slayer match on Halo 3 wherein a guy repeated the words World of Warcraft over and over and over until the match ended. Yes. You can mute these players, but by the time you have it all figured out, you've been assassinated three times.

Angry guy - You only find him in team games. You're not playing up to snuff, the team is losing and he's really mad at you. Expect verbal abuse.

Who have I forgotten?

I think i should make a guide on how to work your mics with RB controllers... xD

It would help most, right? Ill think about it, cause id take pictures etc to make it easier to work.

Well, I'm either lucky or something but I always use my microphone and and Rarely run through jerks.

was playing some Band Quickplay 2 nights ago and Most of the people I played with had microphone. Everyone was good enough not to talk during the actual song. We just talk while wondering what song to play next and maybe a little on our performances.

I agree, this is the advantage. Even when I don't have a mic on, if a couple others do and I'm band leader I totally take requests. It's fun to have long streaks of songs that people like to play. Otherwise they play a song, then leave and you're stuck in that "searching for players" mode for the same amount of time as an entire song at times.

I have not run into any other jerks at all either. Use your mic's if you can, it's a lot more interactive and fun.

I don't think so. I have a buddy from work who gets on every night and we practice online and have to talk on the phone to vote on the song we want to play next.
That certainly would be helpful if anyone were reading this that had a direct link to someone who could fix it (wink wink)

Its seems most people are comfortable in only talking to relatives/friends over the mic. Any online games I play consist of me talking to someone I know, or not at all. Unless on the off chance someone mentions something I'm really into, I stay quiet. But if you give me a game with text communication, I'll "talk" like theres no tomorrow. To me, its fun to listen to conversations, I just don't like to talk myself.

+1 to that ^

I cannot get my headset to work with drums and I love playing drums on line. I hate guitar because I'm not really that good at it. I can do all songs on medium without breaking a sweat but hard and expert, no way. I can do all songs on hard and about 20% on expert drums but I cannot talk to either the leader of the band or if I'm the leader, I can't ask them what they would like to play.

I do have at least my voices coming through my speakers so I can hear just can't communicate. That's my reason.

I usually don't talk unless I'm answering a yes or no question, or I've got to leave for something. If it's a song I don't like or I'm not good at it, I just play on easy. I don't wanna be the jerk who doesn't wanna play your favorite song.

I know there are a lot of douchebags out there, but hey, if you're not a douchebag, and you don't talk, there's one less non-douchebag out there talking, right? It's ideas like that that contribute to the sometimes overwhelming-seeming array of douchebags on xbl. ;)

P.S. I'm a mature, skilled player. I like to talk. We're out there. :)

I love talking on the game! Maybe some people could view me as obnoxious, but how else are you going to entertain yourself besides talking to yourself?

(If my speech is slurred and I'm making no sense I apoligise, but a hard day's work sometimes calls for a glass of whiskey before I start playing for the night)

Yeah, I tried using my mic with my drumset and couldn't get it to work hooked up that way. Works fine through my normal controller, of course.....but either those adapters or something in the drum/guitar controllers themselves doesn't work right with the headsets.

nobody talks because their mics dont work with the stupid adaptors in the guitar or drums This is mainly because you have to push the part that attaches to the mic plug alot harder than you should. Most people barely put it on, and then it's not fully connected.

Yeah, this one surprised me, but it's definitely there.

It's why my standard answer to the "what race are you" question is "it doesn't matter", my standard answer to the "what color are you" question is "plaid", and anyone making racist comments gets negative feedback from me.

(I did not expect such sewage to spew out of my speakers when playing a networked game of Uno, of all things...)

Personally I just tell them to look at my character and ask again.

I feel kinda bad though, the first time I did Xbox Live, I didn't know the mic was your headset until the song began, I just assumed I had to hold down a trigger..

..I got it down now though ^^;

But the reason I quoted... Is because the feedback sytem is flawed...

I beat someone at Score Duel and he gave me feedback as unsporting....

...I didnt even talk! =(

I am not sure about the actual xbox headsets, but I plugged my cellphone headset into the drum kit, no adapters, and it worked perfectly. I just don't have a mute for when the song is actually playing. Kinda wish I did, because I curse to myself when I start screwing up.

Well i like talking to the peoples on teh mics!1

Seriously, it's a lot more fun, we dont talk during the song, and we can have a democratic decision on which song to play next.
We can also joke a bit after and before a song.

Oh and answering on who you forgot on the list of gamers, you forgot the ones who have their freaking mic on and you can hear an echo. A REALLY LOUD AND DISTORTED ECHO.
