Does anybody else think that Harmonix possibly left features out of Rock Band on purpose as a reason for them to be able to sell another version? I mean c'mon.....these guys are not rookies at this....something like BWT is something that people obviously want.

Do you think there were just limitations that we can't understand preventing these things, or could my conspiracy theory be right?

No online BWT was a limitation of what they wanted to do versus what they could do (within time and effort constraints). That much is certain.

No Solo BWT was an obvious design decision to shape players' experiences, "encouraging" multi-human play to get the best experience out of the game.

I haven't seen anything in Rock Band specifically to be something Rock Band 2 would have as an improvement.

lol it hasnt been nearly long nuff for them to make a large update yet (would make the game look faulty, even if its only adding new features). But nah, seriously thats a bunch of crap. At the point they managed to get quickplay to work online with friends, it would've been a sich to make BWT online. same concept, only different look. It could've been done, but i think they want to save it for RB2 so people will actually buy it instead of just keeping RB1. And to to the person (which i know there will be one) who says they cant cuz of the achievements and band config, the BWT lets you have guests, its the same concept, and the achievements online...alot of the online xbox games out there require you to go online to even get all the achievements..look at halo 3...like 70% is online...speakin of halo 3...they did it in campaign. you can play the campaign and invite friends to complete all the levels in it, so yea...bam...lies busted

oh and technically you can even have them set in as a band member instead of a guest, because some games have clans. The techonolgy is there, and they've got a link with EA, which has been doin that for years. Could've easily been inplemented

I'm sure Christmas was a bigger influence of what was in the final game that "Rock Band 2".

From a business stand point you always want to make sure you have something big to lead off with for Rock Band 2. Something to advertise the new game as being so much better then the first because it has this.... Whether Online BWT is it, who knows but them. If they had a RockBand 2 that just had new songs it would be slow to sell as a lot would still be using RB. They will need something to grab everybody and move them to RB2. I'm sure they know exactly what they are doing.

Plus I'm sure right now they are busy with DLC and fixing current problems as it hasn't been released for that long.

I wouldn't expect a RB2 anytime in the near future, or even a couple of years. In several interviews with Harmonix, it's been said many times that Rock Band is more of a "platform". They plan on continually building on it, and not just songs for DLC.

When asked about Rock Band 2 or any sequel, they said they didn't want to do that. They're using Rock Band as a platform to work with and build upon.

So if we are to see any changes with the game, it will be patched in the future, or DLC. From what they've said, do not expect a RB2. Which is good, because we can save our $$$ :)

Perhaps, but if it was, its being done for the good of the game.

Sure alot of the DLC songs could have been on the disk, but right after its release they hit on the marketplace. They make money, everyone is happy including the band who's album sales has drastically declined since the rise of the internet. In a matter of weeks they are making more from the DLC stuff than the album sales OR album sales spike as a result of their music being heard on such a repetative scale, people realize "metallica rocks OMG".

Which leads to more bands crying for their stuff to get on the DLC table, which gives us more of a variety. Rockband is the most expensive game in history for me. I have no problems with that due to the fun I am having. I'm not stuck singing Madonna on some Karaoke Revolution game, instead I am playing the drums lol. Point is, the game is a blast for everyone at my house playing it, and we are starving for tunes. If leaving stuff out was done on purpose to entice and ensure a constant supply of fresh tunes, I can live with that.

Did any of you even think about how online BWT would work?

They would probably have to make you create a separate band from the BWT that's currently in the game, because if you chose to go online with the band you would only be able to play while your system was online.

Otherwise any progress you made wouldn't be updated online, and if your friend on his own machine fired up the online BWT nothing would have changed.

He'd play through the same stuff you've already beaten. Not that it's a huge problem, but people might complain about that, and it's really inelegant that way.

Keeping it to one band would be worse, I mean we don't like the fact that you can't play BWT singleplayer, imagine if it was online only.

There's no reason to believe that Online BWT would have all those crazy restrictions and consequences as you describe.

You would not likely need to create a different band for online and off. If you created the band online there'd be nothing stopping you from playing an offline local multiplayer and progressing in it and then switching at your whim. The only thing that would not update right away would be some website somewhere that reported on your band's progress.

The band belongs to a leader and so if the leader is offline than other people cannot play that band. It's strictly impossible for a single band to be played separately by two different members who are not connected.
