I got my first console this week(PS3)and I updating to the 1.82v.

The downloading went just fine, very quick, then after the dl it said
to press the "X" button and the screen would go black, which it did.

Now the screen has been black for an hour and ten minutes, has
something gone wrong or is this normal???

I'm scared to turn the thing off as the book and forum post said
you might screw the pooch if you do.

HELP:eek: PLEASE

Well... You do have a warranty, i assume, so I'd try hitting X a few times more.. if the controllers not working, youll probably be forced to turn it off anyways. If it ends up screwing it up, then you might have to call up sony and get a replacement or a repair for it.. but it would not be your fault, so I wouldn't worry too much about losing money on it.

Check your warranty first, maybe call up sony's tech support line if they have one, and then just reboot it.

Did you purchase an extended warranty? I always do with computer related crap. Far too big of a chance of it crapping out on you. The more advanced tech gets, the frailer they become.

I've yet to buy a new system, I keep hearing all these stories :(

When it comes to warranties, lemme explain. For HP at least, our notebooks and desktops come with 1 year warranties. These cover hardware defects and pre-installed software. You can extend this warranty for up to 3 years, and it's pretty decent. However, if you have a power surge, crack your screen, spill water on it, drop it.. anything customer related is not covered, and they're also the ones that cost upwards of 6-700 dollars to fix.

When you consider an accidental damage warranty for 3 years is 389 bucks.. that's half the price of a screen repair and 1/3rd of water damage. They will literally replace your computer if you drop it out a window, on purpose, then run it over with a car, and you call in saying it was an accident. So I almost always recommend these for notebooks, because screen breaks are far more common than one would expect.. many times people just put their NB in a carrying case, and its got a crack when they pull it out.

So you didn't hear this from me... but if you get one of those warranties and its almost up, save your info.. break your computer.. call in and they will send you an equal or better model of computer as a replacement =)

Desktop computer warranties are largely unnecessary after the 2nd year because theres a very low risk of accidental damage, and the hardware is just way more reliable. Plus, technology moves so quick that they're obsolete within 2 or 3 years.

As for PS3... I don't know how they work, but i will assume that like most other electronics companies it will be a limited warranty that covers factory defects or situations like this.

Thanks guys but a guardian angle came along on Gabbly and held my hand while
I pulled the plug.

I then turned it back on and it installed the update just like it was supposed to.

I got a cup of coffee, took a couple of nitro pills and installed GH2.

I think once i get the hang of it,it'll be fun. I play by ear and those colored dots
throw me.

Thanks again guys

Oh yeah.... NEVER EVER EVER buy instore warranties. Manufacturers warranties 9 times out of 10 are far better, and in-store 'repair' consists of them calling the manufacturer to set up a repair... basically lengthening the amount of time it would take if you had a warranty and called in yourself.

(The following post has absolutley nothing to do with this thread.)

Nah.. The extended warrantee's I buy promise flat out trades for new replacements.. I don't believe in that turn in for repair and pay your shipping costs nonsense. I've never needed to use one but that is what they promised me. My wife is a bulldog and would get results if they tried backing out. I get the same warrantees on my guitar and amp gear too.. As long as you don't mod them, that is.

That's the way Best Buy does it Phrank, you take it back and they give you
a new one or your money back or credit on the price of a the new model
if what you have has been discontinued.

NINO: I sent you a message my friend.
