Could a chick flick bump Avatar off its box office top spot??
If Friday's numbers are any reflection of the days to come, YES!
Dear John, starring Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum opened to an impressive $13.8 million on Friday night, while Avatar only earned a little over $6 million!
Seems like the seven-week #1 streak is coming to a close!

Maybe it's because Avatar has been in the theaters for 7 weeks and everyone finally realized it's Pocahontas meets the Smurfs? ^_^

Yeah seriously. It's like when that dude who won Jeopardy for 6 straight weeks lost. It's not a shocker; it's just time.

You're overreacting. There's no problem with this movie beating out another movie that's already been in theaters for about 2 months. It was bound to happen eventually.

It's been out for seven weeks and has been at #1 all of them. Everyone who wanted to see it has seen it already.

Indeed, Seyfried is a nice actress.

Wiiman, I've already warned you about partisan political bashing being a no-no on these forums before. A third strike will earn you another ban.

Considering Avatar's been #1 for about two months now, it's like when Fedor Emelianenko finally loses a fight. It's just because the movie's been out so long it eventually HAD to fall. Notice the numbers are pretty bad in general, it's not like Dear John had such a smash Friday.

It's the contrarian thing to do. Some people feel the need to be the one guy who doesn't like (or even watch) something, with no reason why. They'll give a lame excuse like "It's blah blah in space," because some (slightly) smarter contrarian said it first.
I'm like that with Rush. They suck. I never listened to them really, but they suck anyways. :)

^ I used to hate Rush. Then I played Rock Band. <3
Movie revolved around a plot that's been done a million times before. Group of people live happily, one falls in love, evil humans/men/iceberg come and mess everything up, yarrrrr!
Except this movie likes to not tell you anything about the story (even though it's honestly not that bad) in it's trailers, but rather show off all the fancy scenery and graphics in a "Look what we can do!" fashion and people eat it up. But, not only that they had to throw in 3D and IMAX to further the hype.
If you want to make Avatar a ride, make it a ride, not a movie.
Oh and huge rocks don't just float in the air for no reason, dammit! >_<

Which movie had explosions? Avatar, clearly that makes it a better movie. I like chick flicks, but this movie is just as bad as a the notebook.

There's actually a reason for it on the official movie encyclopedia. (http://www.pandorapedia.com)
The floating mountains are filled with unobtanium and are floating in an electromagnetic field, which also explains lots of electronic devices don't work there.

As soon as the gays and Indians start protesting and everyone kills themselves because real life isn't as beautiful as the movie and people start becoming curious and going to go watch the movie, then it will take top spot.

Don't use logic with them. For all they care my ancestors were ripping off movies made 200 years after they would die.

Apparently they tried, but the mountain became unstable, and crashed into another one, people were killed, and including that in the film would have been a lot of exposition. James Cameron would rather include more scenery porn.

Ken Jennings was rumored to have done that on purpose (http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2005/09/did_jennings_lose_on_purpose.html). Just a theory though ;).
